Is this disc region free? I've read that most of Sony's discs are, but I wanted to be sure before placing an order.

I just finished watching this and the subtitle problem is worse than reported. Due to some kind of error the "forced" English/Russian subtitles do not work unless the English subtitles are engaged. So it's all or nothing. This should be recalled or at the very least replaced.

Well, I figured out what happened. The wonderful people at Target put all the standard dvd's in the blu-ray sales slot, because they didn't have any blu-rays in stock. Very thoughtful of them.

I bought the trilogy today and everything I've read indicated that these movies had TrueHD tracks, but all I'm able to find is the standard DD 5.1 EX track on Star Trek 2. The disc defaults to Dolby digital and there's nothing in the menu indicating a high res audio track. Does the trilogy...

This is probably a stupid question, but is region coding an issue with blu-ray movies - will it play in my sony bdp-s1? Also is there any playback issues because of pal/ntsc, or is that a non-factor with high definition?

That was one of the first things I did when I set up the player, but just to be sure I went in to the menu and turned the dialog enhancement on, then back off. For some reason that I can't explain this seemed to fix the problem. A definite improvement!

My Apollo 13 collector's edition went bad on me, as well as my copies of Blade and Driven. All three played fine originally, but over time they just took a dump. However, the one title I keep expecting to go bad hasn't - the original first pressing of Contact, which has had a lot of complaints.
