Warner WILL support HD DVD until 5/31/08

I picked up a lot of the last laserdisc releases back in 1999/2000. The last two domestic releases were Bringing Out The Dead and Sleepy Hollow; I had both, but sold them and picked up the Japanese LD to Bringing Out The Dead (beautiful gatefold). The DVD versions blow them away but they...

Should WB and the BDA give HD DVD owners a "peace offering" to welcome them to Blu?

No, the enthusiast market is large enough and dedicated enough where we would pay $39.99-$49.99 for titles - excluding the discounts that would be available online. We like to think we wouldn't, but most of us would. We may not buy as much, but they would sell enough titles to support the...

Should WB and the BDA give HD DVD owners a "peace offering" to welcome them to Blu?

The difference is, should the market become niche, we could have some great companies step in to continue getting us product. It would still not sell very well, yes. Laserdisc never sold very well. Didn't stop me from enjoying laserdisc. Did studios care about LD not selling very well...

Should WB and the BDA give HD DVD owners a "peace offering" to welcome them to Blu?

I disagree. Elite, Pioneer, Image, and Criterion all did this for many years. For 3 of the 4, film restoration and release onto laserdisc was their only business for quite some time. Image branched out; Elite and Criterion followed the market to DVD. The LD market was tiny. Prices were high...

Should WB and the BDA give HD DVD owners a "peace offering" to welcome them to Blu?

Or the studios go back to licensing their films out to companies like Image, Anchor Bay, Pioneer, etc., to do the transfers and releasing. Then the studios will just get a cut of the sales for basically no work on their part. Sure, we'll pay a premium, but I'll gladly pay for quality releases.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) HD DVD still censored!!!

Got ya. Thanks for the clarification. I've always had the Japanese DVD with the DTS track, so I never realized. It is unrated and has the breast shot in question. Missing it for the HD-DVD wouldn't bother me much.

Dawn of the Dead (2004) HD DVD still censored!!!

You guys do realize there is a lot more censored than just the shot of the topless zombie? I suppose that is the easiest way to identify cut/uncut, and perhaps that is what you are all referring to. But there are several extended gore shots in the unrated version.

    **Official HTF HD Formats Ind./Retailer/Studio Support Thread-*SEE POST 3176, p. 106*

Still on the sidelines myself. Yesterday's announcement was disappointing. I was hoping to see blu-ray win only because of its larger capacity. But I've always known that if I were to buy into HD, I would get both. No argument for me to one side or the other. It's about the software. I want The...

BACK TO THE FUTURE DVD: Corrected Versions In Stores, FAQ & Summary

Is the R2 set available with the corrected discs now? I'd like to get the R2 discs for DTS tracks, but never did due to them having the same framing issue.

    Life without Stern isn't pretty...

I'm only a casual Stern fan, but I've decided to switch to Sirius - primarily because of Stern. I've recently become more interested in listening to music, so the two will go well together I believe. The $500 million is of course about getting new listeners over - no doubt. But remember all...

24 Season 4 ongoing thread (Merged)

Man, I'm glad I don't think like some of you guys. Who cares if a nuclear plant can't be controlled by remote? This is TV!!! I mean, we could pick apart 90+% of movies out there in terms of realism. All that matters to me is that the show and Jack are kicking ass!

    FS: Computer

The mb + cpu + ram have been sold on ebay. Tom: I can sell you the hdd. It's actually 7200RPM; I was wrong about the speed. This drive sells for ~$40 on ebay, brand new. Mine has little use - guaranteed no bad sectors or anything. I'd give it to you for $18 shipped. Let me know.

    SIRIUS passes 700,000

That's unfair Ron. I think we could ask the same of you in regards to XM. What is your affiliation with XM? I recently read through this forum because I'm considering Sirius, though it's tough for me to commit to an extra bill each month. A few things I've noticed: 1) Most of the discussions...

Stern may start early (like a year early)

Only 200,000? LOL. So they had 700,000, sign Stern, gain 200,000 with a year+ to go before first broadcast, and this is bad? LOL. Stern is pimping Sirius like a $5.00 whore. XM is dead.

Stern may start early (like a year early)

Chris: Yes. And to each their own. We can all claim we like whichever personality, and explain why we like them, but it's really up to each individual to give them a listen and decide if they find them amusing. At least with Stern people can still do that (for free), though I agree, he does...

Stern may start early (like a year early)

Just wanted to add my comments: Love Stern, hate Ren and Stimpie...err Opie and Anthony. I listened to them for a few months years back. Maybe I'm just old (28), or I've been listening to Stern for too long (since I was 16), but O&A didn't do anything for me. Too....immature, I guess. No laughs...

The New Twilight Zone (80's version) coming to DVD this year? Looks like it!

Great news. I have nearly all of Season One on Japanese laserdisc, but they are dated tranfers (though uncut, and certainly the best out there right now) and have burned in Japanese subtitles. Season One is great. Season Two is good too - I managed to pick up some of those eps. Season Three...

Khef, ka and ka-tet - Any Dark Tower fans excited over Book 5?

There are too many favorite moments to list them all. There is no single one that I could choose. I love each character; they are all fantastic. But Roland is one bad ass mofo. The books are fantastic. I've "listened" to them several times each. I own all on unabridged audio book. King...

WTB Schindler's List on DTS laser disc

I usually search completed auctions on ebay. That way you can get the high, low, and mid value of a particular item. If it's something rare that doesn't show up all that often, you may need to monitor ebay for a little while. That's really the best way to guage the worth, since ebay is the place...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: HALLOWEEN - 25th ANNIVERSARY

Agreed. There is no definitive version. I myself own the 1999 DVD, the 2003 DVD, and the Criterion LD (for the extras that didn't hit DVD, like the Siskel and Ebert review). Unfortunately this happens a lot. I own Criterion's The Game LD, Image's The Game DTS LD, and I want to get the...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: HALLOWEEN - 25th ANNIVERSARY

The video quality is great in regards to sharpness and lack of blemishes. The problem is the colors, which are washed out in several scenes.
