LOL, Lewis. My friend is a polk dealer. I recently had an opertunity to "play" with the LSi9s for some time while waiting for him to finish with another customer. I personaly own B&W NT1s (now upgraded to 705s) and I'm quite happy with them. The first thing I noticed was that the Polks had a...
DTS was doing 5.1 audio and for the most part was doing a pretty decent job of it for some time. Unless the engineers do a good job with SACD and DVDA there is little to show that is better the the DTS offerings. Just because the recordings are more dynamic and cleaner doesn't always show up...
I'd sure try andther CSR. It can be a night and day expierence. I know you can upgrade because I did it. They would have to be crazy not to let you upgrade.
Using the 602s for the front worked out fine for me. I have dual SVS subs and crossed it all at 80Hz. It sounded great. The subs with the 602s easily offset what the 604s would have done and I think my setup had more flexibility. 601s should be fine for the rears.
On a clear day your signal strength should be a lot higher than 70. 100 or more would be realistic. This may be at least part of your trouble. The picture I get is very good. I think when I still had cable that the very best channels were close to what I get with the dish but there were only...
I am using the 1NTs in front with the CNT center. I also use a pair of SVS subs. Properly crossed over with a good sub there's no way you would regret having the 1NTs. Good luck with your decision.
I'm also in the bookshelf camp. Properly placed and crossed over with a good sub they are great. I've heard some very good floorstanders but everything mentioned above about that favors the bookshelf speakers is true.
The real question is if the 700 series has improved in performance enough to justify the extra money. Or are we just paying for a remodeled cabinet style? I'm guessing my CDMs are still plenty good enough.
You can also run the dish receiver to the VCR along with the cable coax. When the dish receiver is off you would be watching cable. When the TV is on channel 3 or 4 (your perference) and the dish receiver is on, you'd be watching dish reception. I have the minimum cable package right now until...
Hey gang, an AVS Forum member mentioned this today...... " I bought one(999)8/5. Service menu says revision number is 2.110 (D7BA) versus 10/22/02 revision number of 1.400 (00D1) per an earlier thead on this site. Hope this helps." I'll have to use this if I ever hear from Sony. Bob
"First - the 999 is sloooooow when it comes to access and layer change. The layer change is very noticeable on the Sony and imperceptible on the Denon. The main reason: My receiver does not do bass management for the 5.1 external inputs; therefore I need to use the crossover on the DVD player...
Actually, the video is close if you're not one of us knowledgable, picky, audiophile - videophile dudes. The average, uninformed consumer will not notice any difference. Even the informed have to look closely to see any differences. Yes, if you read the Secrets tests you'll see there are...
If Sony developed a new chipset I think it's only fair they fix the 999s that are already out there. They got enough complaints about it. The five year warranty should cover it.
Yes, Huzefa, I plan to do the HD thing but I'm waiting for the receiver prices to come down. The 811 sounds good. Sadly, the receiver I'll be getting for my widescreen is the 508 with PVR. When and if I go to the 811 I will probably miss the PVR. (I don't think the 811 has it) The 921 is...
Monday I am having a two receiver dish setup installed. (Dish Network) One of my sets is a 57" widescreen, the other a 32" 4.3. I have been cecking out the dish threads on various forums and have noticed a number of members that are disatisfied with the reception on the widescreen sets. I...
At least it is only the one problem with the Denon 2900. The Sony 999ES had several glitches. I'd say if the cue trouble with the Denon is the only issue then it's a decent player. Yeah, we'd like it to be perfect and it should be at this stage of the game. I don't know what is wrong with...
I had 602s on the four corners for about four years (I had the CC6 center) and It was a very nice sounding setup. Using 601 speakers in the back should work quite well. I think you would be very happy with that choice.
The power ratings for the Sony are not bloated. Both are decent receivers. While I prefer the Sony, (it looks to be better built with more things you can tweak and it's no slouch in the sound department, either) you should check them both out and see which you prefer. What's good for one person...
Lam, I'm not sure what better build quality would have to do with how the unit sounds. Maybe lower vibration do to a heavier box or something? In reality, it's what's inside that counts. Audiowise, I haven't read too many bad things about either player. Your absolutly right when you mention...
The 999 is an excellent audio player, period. I haven't heard the 9000 but every review I've read says the 999 is better. How this compares to the 333, 555 and 777 I don't know but I bet it's competive.
Thanks guys. I'm not sure if it could be a power supply problem because the power is there. It just changes the sound. I will try EZ board as well. What worries me about sending it in is that so many people get their stuff back damaged.
For some time now I've had an intermitant problem with my 777. Since it is not doing it all the time I've been reluctant to have it looked at. The 5 year warranty only has about a year to go (as all of you know who bought this player in its' short build period.) so I should get on top of this...
Greg, go here....http://techneaux.mine.nu:81/%7Emobet...aBB.pl/YaBB.pl Go to the 777 section and post your problem. These guys may be able to help you.
I only have SACD but my player has bass management. I have to say the SACD disks sound more airy, spacious and not as compressed when compared to the DTS disks. I think DVD-A would produce similar results. The DTS disks sound damn good though. I'm not sure everyone would agree it's worth...
