The author of this thread has a point. The documentation that goes along with today's avrs are not easy for anyone without some level of technical skills and ability. I am a techie and the knowledge to be able to sort through the manuals but I have empathy for those without a background. The...
Unfortunately iTunes does not support DLNA. Unless you buy Apple hardware you will have to go through some machinations to get access to the iTunes libraries. There is software out there that can help. The biggest headache is the DRM tracks that were bought from the iTunes store. Apple does...
I think when you get at this pricing level, all the major brands, Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc...., build quality receivers. I am also one of those that believe that human ears can not tell the difference between amplifiers running at the same volume and within their specifications...
If you still decide on Onkyo, the 3008 can be had from "eggman" for 1149 this weekend. I tend to think the 3008 is the better value. They seem to drop the price on weekends. Note that follow on to the 1008 3008 and 5008 should be out soon.
The HDMI CEC interactive functions are by different names for different brands. For Onkyo it is RIHD, Panasonic Viera, Toshiba, REGZA-LINK, etc. I believe that LG's is SimpLink. I do not know if your TV supports it. If it does check your setup menu. The control may have come with a firmware...
Don't know the TV or receiver but there is an HDMI standard (can't remember the acronym) that enables this functionality. Check your settings and documentation.
You can find the tx-nr1008 new in sealed box from the big river and the eggman for 799 if you watch the pricing day to day but both are out of stock at the moment. The tx-nr3008 can be had for 1149 tonight from the eggman (probably go up tomorrow) in stock or ordered from big river although...
I have to admit that my ears are not good enough tell the difference in sound quality between the Denon and Onkyo or Yamaha. I tried. I agree that 10 watts is not going to make any difference. I did some comparison's to all three. I was biased towards the Denon 4311ci but did not have the...
The street price of the Onkyo 1008 and even the 3008 can compete with the 3311. In my opinion the 3008 is the much better value over the Denon. The 1008 vs 3311ci is a little close. It all depends on what is important to you. I still like the 1008 which I bought over the 3311ci.
I can not tell how to set up a 3311ci. But I do suggest getting a Logitech Harmony one remote. My wife is as non-tech savvy as it gets. But I was able to replace my old Sony with an Onkyo with the change being completely transparent as far as my wife was concerned.
Please further define 'whole' system. Are you only including the audio part and not the TV or source such as BD player? One kind of solution alternative that was recommended yesterday in another thread is the Onkyo HT-S9300THX system which includes a complete 7.1 audio system. It will cost...
Everything works.. so to speak although it may not be optimal. Most of the time it is better to buy the main fronts and the center at the same time. Lots depend on what your budget is over time. The 708 would work just fine as well as other avr's. But I kind of agree with the above post...
While I am not a Bose fan, I am not going to bash them.. Speakers are the most difficult to chose and in the end a personal choice. On speakers, I always advise that auditions are critical which makes online buying difficult although SVS has good return policies and could be a great choice...
B&M is brick and motor, meaning stores with doors, floors ceilings etc as opposed to online stores. And yes you can build a system around an AVR. In fact you can play with an AVR, while you just listen to speakers. If you love the Polks (and they make good speakers) go for it. Mr. Reed is...
To put in in my 2 cents but not worth that much... Speakers are the most important part of your audio system... They deserve your time to compare and should take up the biggest part of your audio budget. Before you decide on the Polks.... The best method is to go to several b&m stores...
It has been a long time but I just ordered the 1008. Had to wait for other obligations to be taken care of. There have been lots of valid opinions on the pluses and minuses of the various avrs in many of the threads. On balance I believe this one best meets my requirements. At least I will get a...
I misinterpreted your 'better" comment. I apologize. The efficiency ratings, impedance requirements, room dimensions and spl desires of the listener are all factors involved. However, given an 8 ohm nominally rated speaker with 90 or better efficiency is going to be able be driven by most...
I am not sure why higher sensitivity speakers indicate better quality. It just indicates that a speaker can achieve high levels sound with less power, not the quality of that sound. There have been horn loaded speakers that get well into the 100+ category and could be driven with transistor...
I agree. Speakers are the most important components in your system, the most variable, and the ones you need to go to B&M stores and listen listen.listen. Choose amps, separate or avr's, that match the load and efficiency of your speaker selections and your listening habits. In John's 800 to...
Great price! are they an authorized Yamaha dealer? Note that the Onkyo tx-nr1008 can be had for 799 also at times from authorized retailers. Sound and Vision mag on-line has a review of the Onkyo.
"Of the three personal experience would lead me towards the Onkyo." I am beginning to lean towards Onkyo. The Denon compromises look to be too difficult. For the Yamaha, it is as silly as that I prefer not to buy a ipod dock and HD FM is not a hot button. But I have not come to a final...
My 11 year old Sony 50es has bit the dust and am in the hunt for a new home theater receiver. The one before the Sony was a Yamaha CR2020 which I had for 22 years. So I don't change often. Have temporarily channeled sound directly to TV. If I was willing to spend $2000, my choice would be...
Andrew, thanks.. I have only seen some user reviews on the set. I have yet to see any other professional reviews on the new Panasonic line. Do you have any pointers? I do understand that everyone has an opinion. And I have not seen any mention of the CNET concerns especially video noise in...
CNET has reviewed the 46" version of the 85U series. Panasonic TH-46PZ85U Flat-panel TV reviews - CNET Reviews The negatives are as follows: "Poor noise reduction; less-accurate color temperature and primary colors; fewer picture controls than many HDTVs." I will be buying the...
