Personally, I'd avoid any cable that employed a matching network like the plague. As for what is best?? The sky is the limit. Nordst, Kimber, Cardas, Analysis, Audioquest, etc are all good. I, like Mark C., use the DHLabs Q-10 wires.
so is HDTV (edit - by the TV/Mfgs/Govt) which, certianly provides enhanced quality over SDTV. I don't see why we can't enjoy the benefits of improved hi-res audio if it's available. The bottom line is, I don't really care what format "wins", hopefully the best will, I just want great audio.
I suspect that none of the companies involved would have proceeded on anecdotal evidence alone. Case in point is the fact that most of the recording industry uses tools that employ 24 bits at rates much higher than 44.1KHz. Why would they invest in high resolution tools if there was no benefit...
Last time I looked, music wasn't made up of periodic sine waves which is what your Nyquist argument is based on. It is a complex waveform which may, or may not be, periodic and requires frequencies well above 20KHz to reconstruct. If you perform a Fourier transform of a square wave you find...
If excellent 2-channel is what you want then the Bryston will work quite nicely. If you are only concerned about DD & DTS then you have many more choices that are very good. I went a different route and got a good 2-channel preamp with HT bypass. This allows me to use my old reliable pre/pro...
I use Bryston 7B-STs for my mains and an ATI AT1505 for center and surround duties. The center is bi-amped, the surrounds are mono-amped and one amp channel is spare. Speakers are B&W N802-mains, HTM1-center, N804-surrounds. There is no way that I can hear any change in sound when panning...
The new Denon 5900 is a good all-round universal player that seems to be getting high marks from critical buyers. From a standard DVD player you can get a 5.1 mix out of a DVD-A via your HT decoder however, this won't be the hi-rez feed. Many SACD's have a CD layer (hybrids) so that you can...
With the new Sony line coming in you might be able to get a good deal on the older models. Shop around and see what you find as people begin to unload existing stock to make room for the new line. I have a 4ES for my bedroom system and really enjoy it. Unfortunately, I can't say how it...
I recently picked up a Sony KV24FV300 Wega for the bedroom to replace a 19" Zenith. The Sony is a very nice set however, lacks a few little features. One that I miss is the auto tracking color for broadcasts. It seems that there is quite a bit of variability among broadcasters out there. The...
Sony has 2 multichannel inputs, the Pioneer 1 Do you need 1 or 2?
Sony DTS 96/24 decoding, Pioneer ? Pioneer probably does also
Pioneer THX certification, Sony none THX doesn't really matter IMHO
Pionner Auto Calibration, Sony ?? Nice feature but, typically you install the system and...
I use the component inputs on my display so, even if there was an OSD volume display I wouldn't see it which is the way I prefer it. I wouldn't want the screen flashing up that information during the middle of a movie. I do have the S-video plumbed into the display only for setup purposes.
I had to set up my 4ES w/o the on screen display and it was a real PITA! When I was finally able to get a display that I could use I was very pleased to find out how comprehensive the OSD really was. I find it makes set-up a snap and is very logical. As for the remote, it is somewhat limited...
You must have accessed the display dimmer function on the remote. From the remote press the < button next to the roller button two times. Scroll down, in the (receiver) sub menu, until you find DIMMER. With the cursor on DIMMER press the roller button until you see a number (xx%) in the...
Poming, I was wondering if you ever got the Citadels before your source "melted down". Glad to see that you did. If you don't mind could you tell us how they compare to the 7B-ST's?? Thanks, Phil
I use Bryston 7B-ST's for my 802's and think that they sound very nice. They really tightened up the bottom end and deliver a nice top end. However, I auditioned the 802's with a Levinson 335 and must say that I was VERY impressed! I can't imagine not being absolutly satisfied with Levinson...
When I spoke with Oade Bros. last week I was told that they would be offering the 999ES at under $900 and it would be available in September (late?).:emoji_thumbsup:
Saurav: Your ASL Waves are probably an exception to the general statement that I was making because they are low-power to begin with. When you start getting into an amp with some guts the price of tubes goes up and the harder you drive an amp the faster the outputs wear out. That is why I...
