Honestly, it's not likely to add one cent of value to your home. What it can add is increased saleability when it's time to market the home. Of course, you can always pull the theater out, do the appropriate drywall patching and painting to turn it back into a regular room and re-install the...
Rick, High definition channels send the black bars at the side when regular programming is upconverted to 1080i. The black bars are from the source and there is nothing you can do to avoid them. Regards.
Don, You can also create unbalanced walls that will greatly reduce sound transmission by using a double layer of drywall on every other wall. The second layer should be of a different thickness than the first.
Jason, 1) There is no "correct" wall height. That said, if you plan to have multiple rows of seating higher is better. The lens of the projector should be at the same height as the top of the screen (typically). 2) 14' back is fine but you could go as close as 11' - 12' back for the first...
Marc, The other issue to consider is the room. If you have a "bright" room that has many reflective surfaces dialogue will become very difficult to discern. You'd also notice that sound effects like gunshots and glass breaking make you cringe and want to run from the room because of the...
Sorry to jump in so late but I find this thread quite interesting. Kevin, There's a major flaw in your first point back on page 2. When you think about it you *may* change your thinking a *bit*. ;) When you go to a concert hall all of the artists are in front of you. This is absolutely...
Brian, I've had both in my system. While I *slightly* preferred the sound of the Krell, I chose to represent Anthem and not Krell (I'm a custom installer). The Anthem has a much better feature set than the Krell, Anthem has already proven that they will offer software upgrades when possible...
Brian, What you say is true only if the back of the card is signed. If it is unsigned they are within their rights to ask for a drivers license. Federal Express depots will not accept cash. It's credit card or check only.
TAW HD800 on a Stewart screen. I had an NEC 6PG Plus until last September. Once you understand the quirks and complicated setup of the NEC projectors they produce an outstanding image.
Add the Mid-Atlantic area to the drenched east. It seems like it rained every day in May. I think we may have had two 80 degree days. In May here, the average temperature is about 80. We did get lucky this weekend. The weather turned out to be much better than advertised. It was still cool and...
Marvin, Because you are purchasing the house, not the lender. You are the risk to the lender and the lender will require you to pay to cover their risk. You don't have to purchase title insurance for yourself but you do have to cover the lenders interest. It would be silly not to purchase...
Is your DVD player setup to output to a 16:9 display? If not you're looking at letterboxed 4:3 and you will have problems. What aspect ratio is your screen? Understand that not EVERY movie should fill your screen. Movies are filmed in varying aspect ratios and you will have black bars on...
Mark, Take a deep breath, Calm down. :) There are so many more important things in the world to be upset over. People have been putting flyers on cars for decades. It's cheap advertising and in the end it doesn't do anyone any harm. Peace.
The Gateway plasma offers abysmal performance. I wouldn't recommend it to the blind. I haven't seen the other plasma but I can tell you that this technology is still young and you tend to get what you paid for when you buy a low budget plasma.
Michael, Are you referring to light spray? ANY 4:3 digital projector that is used in 16:9 mode will exhibit light spray unless an anamorphic lens is used to squeeze the image. Unfortuntely, an anamorphic lens will cost more than the projector in this case. It is not possible to completely...
Correction. There are NO authorized online dealers for Pioneer Elite product. You have to make the decision if a couple of hundred dollars is worth peace of mind during the warranty period. Regards.
The Sony allows selection of any HD output resolution from the remote. As noted, the Zenith does not. The Zenith does toggle between the last used HD output resolution and 480i via the remote. For 99.9% of you this should not be an issue. You should be watching the output resolution that most...
Jay, Pam hit the nail on the head. You'll get much more ease-of-use with a Lutron Grafik Eye and with the higher end Grafik Eye you achieve even more control over your scenes. Radio RA is a great product BUT it's very expensive and I wouldn't use it for a single room application.
Just to make the point again. You absolutely *can* switch video through a receiver to send to a projector. It is in no way the optimal way to send the video signal. In a perfect world you would send every signal to a video processor that would then send the projector each source converted to the...
Joe, You don't get to pick the throw distance. It depends on the projector and screen size you choose. The *best* way to wire the system is to use a video processor between the sources and the projector. Putting a receiver in the video chain adds no quality to the image. I would invest in...
I don't think a 1272Q would command anywhere near $3000. You should post your question in the CRT Projector Forum at www.avsforum.com. No offense to the members here but you'll get a more informed response there.
Channel 90 is a test channel to see if you are correctly setup to receive the 110 satellite. Whatever channel they are adding (if any, at this time) it probably won't be on channel 90.
You would use the preouts from the receiver and connect to the inputs on the amplifier using regular RCA connections. If you connect with speaker wire you WILL blow something up. Never, ever use speaker wire to connect to anything but speakers. Speaker wire is not an interconnect. 5 and 7...
"metal dome tweeters" Say no more. I'd have to say that there are two culprits. An underpowered system (your receiver is only going to put out so much and then you'll experience problems) and the aforementioned metal tweeters.
The Zenith 420 and 520 are excellent receivers. One minor correction to a previous post. The new Sony receiver allow the user to select the output (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i) via the remote control. If you want to select the output on the Zenith you must push a button on the front panel.
It's the same image. Regarding off-air if you get an adequate signal you get what is transmitted. There is no ghosting or other problems that are associated with analog off-air reception. You either get the image with off-air HD or you get no image.
Brenton, You should hook up the red, white and yellow wires from the VCR output to the TV input (A/V input). You should also hook up the DVD player directly to the TV using an S-Video cable and red and white audio inputs. You cannot run a DVD player through a VCR. A nasty copy protection...
