Today I just got around to begin watching Hunt for Red October which I recorded to my DVR last week off of the "Universal HD" channel on DirecTV. I was somewhat shocked to discover that the beginning section of the movie in which Connery and his crew speak in Russian was not subtitled in...
What is it with Fox and Blu-Ray, anyway? Talk about your low batting averages! Perhaps some of the technicians from Disney could pay them a visit and show them a thing or two about how to do a transfer.
Yeah, Amy Adams is terrific in the role (as she was in her Oscar-nominated performance in Junebug a few years back). My wife teased me mercilessly twice, once for simply renting Enchanted in the first place and then again because I liked it so much!
Hmmmm....I'm also connected via an optical cable between my Toshiba A2 and my Pioneer receiver (which is about three years old and has no HDMI input). However, I have had no noticeable problems like the one you described, and I often use that very same scene from MI:III as demo material when...
For what it's worth, I've rented a couple dozen HD DVDs from NetFlix and had absolutely no problems with playback. (Maybe I've just been extremely lucky?)
Yes, see the post I made in this thread over three years ago. These transfers are AWFUL and the ones you mentioned from "World Films" are the same transfers. These movies deserve so much better than this....
I'm pretty sure I know which "cheap scares" you're referring to and they got me as well (and I usually am not susceptible). I enjoyed the film thoroughly....definitely an above average Stephen King adaptation, IMHO.
Yep....my thoughts exactly. At the beginning of this season, some journalist I came across wrote that these final episodes might give Tony the opportunity to redeem or regain his lost soul. I think what producer David Chase told us tonight was, “there’s simply no way that’s gonna happen.”...
Yup....mine did the exact same thing. Drag. Oh well. Since there's little chance I'm ever going to be getting rid of this awesome disc, I can live with it. Definitely irritating, though.
No. Although everyone has their own definition of what is "depressing", I don't think many folks would think that Hustle & Flow would qualify. Some might find it a bit gritty and rough around the edges, but definitely not depressing.
I'll second that. Terrence Howard's performance is extraordinary. A very nice twist on the classic "underdog" story. 82% Tomatometer rating to boot: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hustle_and_flow/
You're right, Matt. He eighty-sixed some recitative, and I agree that was probably a wise choice, especially for this material.
Dreamgirls doesn't really follow this formula. First of all, since the movie is about music, the musical numbers, even those that "break reality", so to speak, don't...
FYI, I submitted my form the last week of December and I just received my discs today. I just got finished watching Apollo 13. It was worth the wait. :-)
My heavens. I watched my HD DVD copy last night for the first time.
Stellar picture quality. Stellar!
Watching The Departed with my friend basically turned into an "extended demo" designed to impress him with HD DVD. He was so floored that he immediately ordered his own Toshiba A2 today!
True, but that's a little bit different, IMHO, since they were catalog titles. It seems more likely that the info on Dreamgirls and Flags or our Fathers would be accurate since they're 2006 theatrical films. I could be wrong, though....
