I would replace it. I also have a DA80ES that has moved up from the theater to the bedroom. It was replaced by a Denon AVR-3803. Now when the 80ES dies I will move the 3803 to the bedroom and replace it with a 3805 (or whatever). One thing I love about the Sony is how easy it is to independently...
What does...
"To support this promise, operators said they will immediately order set-top decoders that can handle HDTV and send a digital signal directly to the new generation of digital TV sets."
mean. I hope it doesn't mean that the new decoders will only have DVI outputs.
I posted this question to Pioneer over the weekend specifically asking about honoring their warrantee if a receiver (VSX-49TX or 47TX) or DVD (47A) is purchased from Etronics or two other Internet dealers.
I have yet to receive a reply.
I'll second that. The powered subs on my 2004TL and CLR-2300 have done an excellent job of revealing the rattles and vibrations in my house. I know which doors must be closed when playing certain CD's or movies to avoid them.
I can say the same for the tiny prosub 80's I use in the bedrooms.
What I was concerned about in terms of the outlaw 950 is:
1. Lack of a phono input. I plan to dub a large portion of an lp collection to CD and it may be difficult to find a usable phono preamp that won't cost at least a good portion of the cost of the 950 itself.
2. Lack of tape monitor...
My needs are a little more basic. I am using Definitive Technology Speakers all around which go down to around four ohms and seem to be difficult for many even high end receivers to drive. I've seen several posts on this forum and others about shutdowns even on highly regarded receivers like the...
When I got my digital cable box, I too noticed that there was no digital output but the box had a Dolby Digital logo. So, I complained to both my local cable company (Insight in Columbus, OH) and to Dolby Labs. I got responses to both: Insight said they would get me a set-top box with Dolby...
Sometimes things are not as simple as they seem.
According to tests of Kenwood receivers in Sound and Vision and Home Theater magazine, the Kenwood Sovereign receivers have met or exceeded their power ratings.
I wish I could say the same about some of the other brands out there...
I have also been looking into this receiver, and others in the Sovereign series, possibly as a stand-alone product but also as a pre-pro into a more powerful power amp. It is the only receiver (outside of the top new Pioneer Elite) with enough flexibilty to handle all of my components (CD...
Check out the new review in Sound and Vision.
Finally...
A receiver that exceeds its power specifications!!
Yes, it can be done.
What do you lose by going to the 47TX?
I would not put too much faith in the Guide to Home Theater review. There were many factual errors, especially regarding the number of amplifiers contained in the unit. I even sent an e-mail to Kenwood suggesting they file a response with the publication.
