It seems everytime I go to my local theater something is wrong. For one movie, the audio seemed to be low bandwidth mono. For Shrek, there was no audio from the right front. Today I went to go see Monsters Inc. The entire left bank of surround speakers was dead. Then, the lights in the...
I'm sure they will. All the other Toshiba's have no problem resizing progressive. I really recommend the RP91 though, its scaling is far better then the blow up tv's do.

If wacking the set effects the convergence it's definantly not normal. You could try taking the case off and "wacking" some of the wire and boards. Perhaps there is just a short somewhere. Otherwise I think you will have to take it in for service.

No one has it in stock yet but how about the new Toshiba 50H81 and a Panasonic RP91. You should be able to get them both for close to $3000.

I'm not sure. How about trying different cables, perhaps S-video and composite. Did you turn your sharpness and contrast way down? Is the noise gray or does it have color?

So how do we get into the dealer section on Toshiba's website? :) I'd like a quality picture of the 50HX81.

It occurs to me that a set may be more susceptible to burn in when it is new. I suspect that the new CRT's are very bright at max contrast, but will very quickly start to dim. The CRT's brightness drop will soon plateau and then drop slowly over the life of the CRT.
If this is true, then...
Apparently the 50H81 sightings were false. The poster at Home Theater Spot recanted and said the manager had mixed it up with another set.

I saw a 34" Panasonic 16x9 HDTV flat direct view running HDTV material at Circuit City. Awesome! It was $3500 though. The clarity was amazing. Just not big enough for me though.

I would only buy a RPTV mail order as a last resort. RPTVs often arrive damaged. Many of the mail order places will not take them back and make you go through the manufacturer. This can be a very frustrating process! Especially if the issue is a display quality issue and not a "won't turn on...
One more thing, how far is the front of the lenticular screen from the front most item on the TV. In some of the pictures it looks like the base may an inch in front of it.

That doesn't really suprise me. The differences you saw had a lot more to do with component vs composite than generic vs monster. I think on a larger HTDV screen the differences would be much more apparent.

How big is it Brett? That sounds like a lot of typing. If you want to fax it to me I could PDF it very quickly. I should just order it I guess..but I'm still not sure if the 47WX49 is the TV for me.

Aren't there some red push service menu settings he can change to get rid of the red push? Red seems about right on my TW40X81 after calibrating the color on VE. I've also done the grey scale by eye on my set so who knows what I've messed up :)
It looks damn good to me though!

Well here is a reply from Sears to my reply to their reply :). I guess you have to buy it first. I'm going to raise hell if they refuse to pricematch after I buy it.
I disagree that on a properly set up RPTV all movies will be letterboxed. With about 3% overscan you can't see the bars on 1.85 movies. If you are setting your set for less overscan then that, you are probably having a very hard time with edge convergence.

I just read on Home Theater Spot that some 50H81's are starting to show up and quickly sell at some Best Buys. Someone also posted a link to a PDF that has the features of the 50H81 and 50HX81.

They only show two non hdtv toshiba at Sears Online. It would be nice if they did so we could pricematch. I suspect the 50H81 is going to be a better set then the 47WX49. I'm just not sure if it's worth $700 and a few weeks of waiting.

This is easy. Set the sharpness to 0. I have a TW40x81 and this is definantly the ideal setting, especially on DVD's. The sharpness control is just adding noise to the picture.

I responded to the email from Sears and asked them to tell me something useful this time. Their policy on price-matching seems pretty clear. The only way I can see for them to get out of it is to say that the vendor is not an "Established Online Retailer". When I am ready to buy the set, if...
If it's very faint there is glass polish for cars that might take it out. It might also make it look worse. Then they could blame you and not take it back at all.

I just went into my Best Buy to see if they had the 47WX49 on display. No luck. I noticed they had a scratched and beat up 40H80 floor model for $1899. Talk about a rip!
I checked out the $1600 yahoo site. With the $174 shipping it comes out only $7 cheaper then IBmega. The only "gotcha"...
Well jeez this didn't help me much at all. My reading is they want me to email mailto:[email protected]@sears.com"}[email protected].
