A Few Words About A few words about...™ There Will Be Blood -- in Blu-Ray

Watched Before the Devil last night, and saw the effect you describe. If I were a betting man, I would say it was shot at 1440x1080 and up-scaled to 1920x1080, since vertically it was perfect (that's an absolute guess). I was disappointed to see what would have been described as...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ There Will Be Blood -- in Blu-Ray

Michel - I completely agree with you. I noticed EE early on, and was disappointed to see it. It does lend the picture a harsh, digital look to be sure. Just watched Walk Hard, and that has an absolutely perfect and smooth look, ironically shot with Genesis HD cameras. No EE, no DNR...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Wild -- in Blu-Ray DVD

Hi Robert, I do have to take you to task on this point, as much as I don't want to. But they have official names, why not simply use those instead of inventing your own? That's like me saying "ah, I know your name's Robert, but I can't be bothered with that, 'Jim' is shorter and easier...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Wild -- in Blu-Ray DVD

Robert, Could I respectfully ask that you call it either "BD" or "Blu-ray Disc", not "Blu-Ray DVD." The same goes for HD DVD (not "HD-DVD"). Just a stickler for accuracy!

    A Few Words About A few words about... ™ 12 Monkeys -- in HD-DVD

Paul_Scott - I vehemently agree with you on all points. You have expressed my feelings precisely. HD DVD brings me closer to the film. I don't expect Batman Begins every time I put a movie in my player. For God's sake.

Any news of when Australia get in on the act?

Ah, Cees, not in my case! You see, the Panny is a 720p projector, and it can't deal with 1080i very well. So, it bobs to 1920x540, then scales that to 1280x720. Trust me on this! However, I agree that people calling 1080i "540p" are absolutely wrong!

Any news of when Australia get in on the act?

Can you tell a big difference on the Panasonic AE700 between SD and HD HELL YES !!!! The panny takes 1080i, bobs it into 540p then scales that to 720p. Sounds nasty, right? It made me think twice before waiting for the HD-A1 when I heard its 720p output was poor (it is). Still, let me tell...

Any news of when Australia get in on the act?

I bought the player from Robert at Value Electronics, for $499 including shipping and two free HD DVD's. From there, a (now defunct!) company called "Shop The States" sent it to me for AU$160, and it only took a few days! So, in all, with power converter, shipping, two movies and the player...

Any news of when Australia get in on the act?

Mate, I felt exactly the same. So, I said bugger it and just ordered one. As soon as it was in stock, I had it a week later. Bought a $120 power converter from Dick Smith, and me and my Panasonic AE700 have been in HEAVEN since. Everyone who sees it gasps, both at the picture and the sound. I...
