It definitely hurts - it's going to add additional delay to the video, and doesn't support HDMI 1.3, so none of the newer audio formats will be passed. Personally, I think the VP50 for an RS1 is kind of a waste of money. (and I've spent thousands on video processors in the past, so I'm...
It's one thing to use the VP50 for sources not feeding 1080p, but I can't possibly see how going 1080p into your vp50 then on to the RS1 could possibly help you. You'd want nothing more than a straight pass-through - so at that point, the vp50 is adding nothing (and just adding more...
No, you should be able to hook the pc straight to the projector. Using an external scaler wouldn't make much sense at all. It's very common for video cards to have to output to fixed-resolution devices (like Dell's 30" widescreen monitor - it only accepts 1 resolution) and scale any modes not in...
For an HTPC, I'd just run 1080p to it (why wouldn't you?). You can set most decent graphics cards to always run at a fixed resolution anyway (automatically scaling if a game for eg runs at a lower resolution).
If you haven't bought a BluRay player, the Panasonic DMP-BD10A is coming out any day now and will be $600 *list* (so you'll be able to get it cheaper) and will come with *5* BD's in the box (Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest...
Someone already posted the price ;) It was a darn nice price. I wouldn't have had the money for it when they first took preorders anyway, so I don't feel too bad about it.
My bulb was at the end of its life anyway and I had to reset its counter trying to limp along until the RS1 arrived. If I had purchased a brand new bulb even semi-recently that would have changed my mind a bit. Assuming it doesn't cost me a fortune to ship it (sure as heck not going to insure it...
MVS's 'normal' price was about $5200 I think. AVS's price was about the same when I last talked to them. So effectively, I'll be getting about $500 for my G-11. Looking at past E-Bay sales of the projector, I'd be pretty hard-pressed to sell it for that much, if at all - not to mention the...
Ok, I got my RS1 today, and... as I predicted: WOW! To start, the delivery guy showed up and had the box on the truck, wanting me to sign. Oh no you don't... I'm not signing anything until I see that box! ;) (Images of a box with a fork-truck hole punched through the side come to mind [seen...
We're kind of getting the thread a bit off-track, but no, I hadn't planned on it. You're probably not the most unbiased person to ask, but do you really think there is much to 'get out of' this trip?
I don't think so. The RS1 has what's supposed to be one of the best scalers in the business built-in - the Gennum. *However*, reports are that it's not necessarily fully enabled. I've seen mixed reviews on AVS about the built-in scaling, but they're varied enough that it's hard to really say...
An exciting day indeed. :) The G-11 was, for its time, pretty much one of the best bang-for-the-buck digital projector around. I fondly remember your VPL-xxx threads (and it was in the running for a while because of you :>), but the G-11 was one of the earliest viable DILA (JVC's name for...
Dennis called me and my RS1 shipped today. I'll have it Thursday! :) I'll be sending my G-11 back to him for the trade-in offer once I get everything set up and confirmed. It was a good deal overall, and if Dennis can find a home for my G-11, all the better. I probably would've had a hard time...
Since this forum isn't owned by a dealer like the AVS forums are, I don't feel too bad saying where I got my RS1 (it should ship this week). I bought mine from Medial Video Systems (http://www.medicalvideosystems.com/). The same place I bought my JVC G-11 6 or 7 years ago.
The Samsung BDP-1200 has the same Reon video processor as the XA2 for SD DVD upconversion for those BluRay fans out there... :) ...it's available for $606 at Amazon right now as well.
Long time no see guys! (If some of you remember me from the first HT Hollywood tour :>) It was finally time for an upgrade of my theater and my JVC G-11 is being replaced by the RS1! I was told it shipped yesterday. :) :) Now if they just would hurry up and ship my Onkyo 805...
Of course, the PS3 is an absolutely absymal SD DVD player, so the fact that the 1200 is a *phenomenal* SD DVD player with superb upconversion to 1080p of SD makes it that much better. :) The PS3 can't be used with programmable remotes either (bluetooth only), so that also rules it out as any...
Oh yeah, we should definitely give them crap (no question!), but I don't think it's any HD vs BD conspiracy. I remember seeing mention of an authoring tool issue back when the early 'why no VC1!?' cry went up and it was basically that Sony's authoring tool didn't support it yet. Perhaps Warner...
I don't think there's any big conspiracy here. My guess is that the authoring tools Warner has been using for BluRay just don't support it yet (same reason a lot of disks still use MPEG2).
The ability to stream to/from Replay's as well as have your PC archive Replay shows, or act as another Replay (so you can stream from you PC to your Replay) via DVArchive is a huge ReplayTV bonus as well.
I'm with a few of the other guys... I almost think teams should be chosen for us. I've definitely been frustrated by a couple of games where it was obvious that the 'statistics' of my team/goalie were working against me, and not my play.
It's hard to say. They're not the speakers I plan on keeping forever, but I've got Home Theater Direct Level III speakers in my theater now and for the money they're phenomenal. I think Frank's advice might be worth looking into. I know nothing about Panasonic's receivers, but HTD is a really...
David, I'd go with the Kenwood HTB505 (or whatever this year's model is). There are a lot of users here that swear by it (in terms of bang for the buck).
P.S. I was robbed, the refs were paid off! ;)
Add me to the list:
Gamertag: Cundra
Team: whoever / 'fan' team is Chicago, but online I typically play Philadelphia, Colorodao, or Detroit.
When I played with Chicago, I kept getting stomped by people who definitely shouldn't have been beating me. ;)
(Other than the bizarre network...
Definitely don't forget to check out AKG as well guys. I don't remember the last time I saw a musician in the studio that wasn't wearing AKG's. The last pair I had lasted 13 years, and I recently bought a pair of 501's which have been excellent (and comfortable). Make sure they're part of...
How about a link to just plain photographs?
I found the use of animation and 'stylized' photographs to be a bit excessive. I finally just gave up because it was taking forever just to see normal images of the theater and equipment. What I did see looked nice though. :frowning:
There's absolutely no question the game is in 480p. My projector isn't set up for a good 480i video mode, but is for 480p, 720p and 1080i. The projector explicitly synchs to 480p when I play Splinter Celll.
