Netflix General Discussion Netflix and Xfinity X1 - Atmos

Unless I'm missing something, that TV has Netflix built in and it does support Atmos out over HDMI ARC. I get Atmos from Netflix this way.

    Verizon Fios HDTV Equipment

    1. Yes. 2. Yes and yes although there have been some handshake issues on HDMI with some TVs. They are rare though and get fixed with STB firmware updates from time to time. 3. Not programming. I think YouTube was available at one point, not sure about now. You can stream photos and...

UK: Top Gear, for the fans..

Another huge TG fan here. Interestingly, going back to the early days of TG, it used to be a 30 minute, serious review show. Clarkson did it with others (not May and Hammond - heck, Hammond would have been in short trousers) and it focused on detailed reviews of new vehicles. The new...

    Compact subwoofers vs. SVS PB-10?

I'm running a PB10 in a room that is about 21x20 with a 19ft ceiling. Even then the room is open to the kitchen and foyer. I'm sure I have some dead spots somewhere (I'm no sub expert) but I can't run the thing over 25% on the gain. It currently sits a few inches out from a side wall. Everything...

    Compact subwoofers vs. SVS PB-10?

I can't offer listening comparisons but if compactness is a real issue, you may have to pass on the PB-10 as you say. I could not believe it when I unpacked it. I was really taken aback by the size of the thing. No complaints on sound quality though ;-).

    Speaker Package Recommendations

Just wanted to report back. I am truly blown away by the SBS-10/SCS-10 combo and the PB-10. I ran the speakers without the sub for a few weeks just because I had no time to get the sub set-up. Now with the sub I am stunned. So is everyone else that hears them.

ISD or NSD? how to know

Hmmm, I ordered a new PB10-NSD. The box says it's an ISD. Not opened it yet to check. Update: Sure enough, there's a leaflet in the top of the box explaining.

    Connecting Rears

Okay, thanks folks. I think I'll persevere with running cables. I don't want to buy good speakers only to compromise on the connections.

    DirecTV, Dish or Digital Cable?

Where are you located? Is Verizon a player in your community? They are offering FiOS TV in many places now. They offer all locals in HD plus others (about 23 in total I think). It's a very competitive service and the HD hardware is very reasonable (leased).

    Connecting Rears

Probably an old subject so if so, sorry. I can never get search to work the way I want it... Are there any worthwhile wireless options for connecting rear speakers? I don't mean speakers with wireless built in - I mean retrofit or add on deals to connect non-wireless speakers. I am trying to...

Audio synch problems on HDTV broadcasts

I have seen this with HD broadcasts OTA using an onboard Sony TV HD tuner. I guess it originates at the source although I have wondered if the tuner was at fault. I have also seen it with my Verizon FiOS TV, both HD and SD.

    Speaker Package Recommendations

SVS is taking pre-orders on the new PB10-NSD now (shipping 6/26) so I just snagged one. Thanks again for the help folks.

    Speaker Package Recommendations

Thanks John. I ordered the SVS package sans subwoofer. I'll figure the latter out later. Last time I was buying HT gear SVS only made subs. Things have changed! I'm looking forward to seeing what all the SVS fuss is about ;-).

    Speaker Package Recommendations

John, where can I get the PB-10? The SVS Website shows them discontinued and undergoing a makeover.

    Speaker Package Recommendations

I would like some recommendations for a 5.1 speaker package in the $800 range. I realize that's limitiing. I've read over the Klipsch Quintet II and 12" sub specs. How are they? Listening will be 50% music, 50% TV/movies. This is for my family room, not my main HT. Will be paired with a Yamaha...

    New A Universal Player

I've been out of the HT loop for a while and need a DVD changer that can also play DVD-A and SACDs. I don't need a top of the line player but I'll leave off my budget until I get some recommendations. I've done a little research but I could do with some help.... please. If I had to, I could live...

    Split HD Antenna Signal?

    Split HD Antenna Signal?

I've got one attic mounted antenna I use for OTA HD reception. It currently rides on one coax with Directv to a TV where it is split to the DTV box and TV ATSC tuner. Can I get that antenna signal on to another coax to do the same job on another TV? If so, how?

The Digital Bits - Good Grief

I respect all of your opinions and to some degree, I regret dragging-up what is obviously an old subject. But it is interesting to read your opinions so thanks for replying. Ron, I mean no disrespect to HTF or TDB. You and Bill do admirable work. I would subscribe if it went that way as I do...

The Digital Bits - Good Grief

Hi DVD fans. I'm a long-time member here but due to other hobbies and commitments I've not been around much over the last year or two but lately I've been lurking around again here and a few other DVD sites. What has really struck me is how much advertising is now all over the sites. HTF seems...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Polar Express - Two Disc Widescreen Edition (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).

I have to agree about the 3D at the IMAX - absolutely emersive. I saw it last year at a special evening where my sons Kindergarten class all went together. Looking forward to this one.

    Beware Bose QuietComfort Headphones

Not defending the Bose 'phones at all but I can say I had some expensive Sennheissers that the foam cups disintegrated on. Rendered them useless. This is a real shame as I've been considering the Quiet Comforts but the $300 tag has been putting me off. If I flew more I probably would have...

Robert Plant Tour - Intro Music

Hi, I saw Robert Plant in concert this week (amazing show). There was some fantastic psychedelic/rock/Indian-type music playing before the show and between the warm-up act and Plant. I've Googled to death and cannot find any information as to who it might have been. Just posting here on the...

    Tips on "haggling" at CC?

Ted, where did I say walking away was to get the upper hand or one over on the store? It's about only paying what you are prepared to pay. If the store does not meet this you walk out and find someone who will sell for your price. You do have to be reasonable of course. It's no different from...

    Tips on "haggling" at CC?

As Allan said, be prepared to walk away. After you're done, ask for free shipping unless you intend to pick it up yourself. Do not pay their retail price. There is always room to move on the price. Good luck.
