Comparison between JBL S-series and S-II Series?

Well, it's moot now - I just ordered the old-school S-38s from dynadirect. They're the only JBL-authorized e-tailer I could find with them in stock, so I had to bite. I like it when my decisions are made for me. :)

Comparison between JBL S-series and S-II Series?

Never mind - I found a few similar subjects in the archives (about 6-7 pages in). Looks like most people who've done an A-B prefer the S-38s over the S-IIs. Looks like that'll be the one for me. :) Of course, comments are still appreciated.

Comparison between JBL S-series and S-II Series?

I'm looking at a pair of JBL S-38s to replace my current S-26s (and move the 26s to the back, to complete my 7.1 setup ;) ) My question is - how do the S series hold up to the S-II series? The S-38-IIs are a bit cheaper, from what I've seen, and the S series are getting harder to find. I know...

    Sub placement questions

Well, there's an open doorway on either side of the room, so I can move the Sub out from the corner about 2-3 feet. If I go past the doorway, then the sub would be fairly close to the listening position, which I've been trying to avoid. But, I will try moving it closer and see how it sounds. As...

    Sub placement questions

I'll be moving into a new house shortly, and I'm going to be picking up an RPTV. I got the dimensions of the one I'm looking at, and went to the house the other day to measure things out. There's pretty much only one place that the TV can go. The placement of the set will leave me with just...

    RPTV View distance question

So it's looking like if I get the 57 Inch Model, I'll save a few dollars and be happy with the picture... But I'm wondering if I'd miss the extra real estate that a 65 would give me. Has anyone had a 51 or 57 for a while and wish they had a larger screen?

    RPTV View distance question

I suppose I forgot to mention a few things - There's no WAF ;), I'll be viewing about 40% movies, 50% cable, 10% Xbox ;), and all of the stores around here that I've found so far that carry the swx don't have 9 feet of available space to view from. Plus, I'm planning on keeping this set for a...

    RPTV View distance question

I'm in the middle of buying a house where I'll (finally!) have room for an RPTV. I'd like to get a 65 inch display; I'm looking at the 65swx20b. My distance from screen to eye will be slightly over nine feet - I've seen the formulas and such which say that 65 inches will be too large for that...

I need some help deciding on an HDTV - $3k-$5k

James - Thanks for the input on the Hitachi SWX. I looked into them last night and saw nothing but good stuff about them. Yet another set to confuse me... :) Gil - In BB, all of the RPTVs were remarkably dim. I was underwhelmed by pretty much all of them. I haven't compared against the...

I need some help deciding on an HDTV - $3k-$5k

I'm in the process of purchasing a new home, and I'm going to have to get myself a new HT display to do with it. ;) I have absolutely no qualms about putting myself in debt to give myself a serious upgrade, so I'm going to need some advice (Size is not an issue). I went to Best Buy tonight (I...

    Subwoofer size in theaters?

I was just reading this thread, and I was wondering - does anyone know how large the Subs that are used in theaters are? Some of the theaters I've been to have impressed me with the volume of the lower frequencies, especially for the size of the room. Just curious. :)

Question about Velodyne SPL-800 (and Small subs in general)

I'm running a Denon 3802 with JBL S26s and an S-center. I'm looking for a sub to complete the system, and the velo spl-800 caught my eye. This will be the first subwoofer I've purchased, and I'm a bit concerned. The woofers in the S26s are 6 inches, and they don't output that much bass. Of...

    Need help mounting JBL S26s

Okay, scratch that. I took the S26s out of the box, and no pre-drilled holes anywhere. The N26s I looked at in BB had them, but not here. I'm still pretty new to this - generally, how do people mount bookshelf speakers? I'd assume you don't wnat to drill holes in your speakers...

What's better - Coaxial cable or composite?

I've got my digital cable box outputting svideo, analog audio and digital audio to my receiver (so that the receiver can auto-switch when I'm on a cable channel with no digtal signal). The only option left to output to my VCR is the coaxial cable out from the cable box. Am I losing any signal by...

    Does XBOX support DTS?

If you're talking about Software for the Xbox, some Xbox games support DD5.1, but no DTS for games. IMHO, the DD encoder on-board on the Xbox is one of the coolest things ever in a console.

    Need help mounting JBL S26s

Right - the S26s were just delivered today - they're in a box in my garage ATM. I knew about the holes on the back, but because of the way my room is set up, there's no way for me to mount the fronts so that they'd be pointing forward, and I'm not able to use stands. I'll have to rig something...

    Need help mounting JBL S26s

I just picked up a couple of JBL S26s to go with my AVR-3802 (:D), and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on how to mount them on my walls. I know where I need them to go, but I need to get the hardware to do it - I've been looking at some of the brackets from partsexpress, but if...

JBL NSP-1 package for $250 shipped at buy.com!

I have a quick question about these speakers - I'm pretty set on getting a Denon AVR-3802 receiver. Would these speakers not be a good fit for that receiver? I'm always one to jump on a deal ;), but if these won't be enough speaker for the rest of my system, I'll keep looking. Thanks, Mark
