I'm a favorite of most any John Wayne film. Not a fan of his politics, but as a Western Hero he just can't be beat. I personally liked Laredo as a favorite Western; one among many that would tie for 1st place in my book of fandom.
Funny, looking back on this thread. I wonder what if any difference the super versions of the DTS/DD debate have going on now. LOL Bet the debate still rages on. ;)
Ed, Got a new BD Disc called Stargaze HD. Display from the player says: Dolby True HD 8.05 Mbps (varible)/ 30 Mbps Video =Mpeg4 AVC 7.05 Mbps (varible)/ 40 Mbps So, my guess is it's playing TrueHD per the software at # Mbps of a possible 30 Mbps....same as with the video. That was...
With all I've read I still can't figure out what my Pioneer 51FD is able to send over the analog outputs to my Elite (non-HDMI) Receiver. If I click on the audio button on the remote, while playing a TrueHD track, it will display TrueHD as the audio track being played. Is it a true TrueHD output...
I hope you're not getting all old and tried on me now ;) What would I do without you to actively keep me in line with the real audio world. I would like to get my room acoustiucally measured, hopefully I will be able to find someone local who can help me with that, equipment and skill wise...
Of course I don't really know, objectively speaking, that the room treatments I installed are really improving the sound quality, or if it's just my highly questionable subjective interpretation of what I'm hearing ;) A double blind test might even reveal that I can't tell the difference with...
For those of you researching the objective end of the discussion, Audioholics is doing a multi part article de-bunking expensive speaker cables :D And they say audio subjectivists can't look at both sides of the issue ;) http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/...snake_oil1.php
Robert, Whether this is relevant (see link) to the discussion or not I leave to your judgement. I found it a fascinating, but very long read...it made me question some things...for believe it or not I really am more of an objectivist than subjectivist when it comes to most things...but not...
Dana, there's more to this then a simple disagreement among friendly forum buddies. This issue has some personal history, especially between a few of the players here, myself included. Comments like yours push some emotional buttons; yours may have been more innocent than it seemed, but the use...
Samuel Adams leans to the warm side, with a darker presentation; I like a brighter, more up front taste like with Tsingtao. Though some say they both taste exactly the same, and this would be proven in a double blind taste bud test. The DYI beers can be great, but soldering the hops is tricky...
The reproduction of sound came first, if you are looking at it from a perception point of view; as in the brain processes the sound it receives from it's sense organs; without the sound reproduction happening first, the brain would have nothing to process.
Well, if you believe in the Big Bang theory of creation, a sound came first, though there was probably no one around to hear it. And here we go again for another 7 pages :D
Robert, I just hope I don't get so wise that I lose my sense of wonder and mystery...to have it all explained, with no chance of there being any doubt as to the nature of it all...seems sad to me.
That's why DBTs are inherently flawed, you take away the all important visual clues ;) Seriously though, you raise some very valid points. I hope to one day test out my perceptions in a properly done DBT. If only to get Chu off my back, it will be worth it :D
True, especially when it's a survival skill like hunting/fishing. But getting back to audio, which is all about illusion in the first place, it's not necessary. Why would you want to expose "the man behind the curtain", when he is creating the very illusion you wanted for your entertainment...
What Chu may find, through his testing, as negligible improvements, I may find through mine as being significant improvement. I know videophiles who can pick out things in what an RPTV or FP is displaying that they consider to be very bothersome defects. I could'nt see a thing wrong with the...
All that science and reason; all to find out what your sense of touch could have told you in just a second. We were given more than one sense just for that reason. Most things that are made complex can be accomplished in a simplified manner just the same.
Chu, I never said this, I would love to be apart of a controlled test, especially with my current wire products. Of all the wire products I've tried over the years these offer the most improvement, enough so that I have every confidence I could pick them out in a blind test. And if not, I'll...
Not really, it was a different world, different challenges. The core problem remains though, the acceptance of difference. We still wage war on that which is not like us, or does not believe like us. No matter how objectively civilized we've become the end results still speak of how little we...
Objective reality exists, and there are aspects of it that are beyond the means of science to identify or quantify. My senses pick these aspects up, I trust my senses. Emotionally I am affected by these aspects, and it heightens my ability to perceive this "thing". Comprende oh great Objectivist...
You shouldn't. That's why you audition gear, trying out different components in your audio rig to see which is best to your ears. I have my own scale of cost to performance ratio to go by, where a component is not only judged by its performance but also in relation to it's cost for whatever...
Robert, Why must there be only one or the other? would'nt an integration of both set of "abilities" be useful? You list much that the objectivists have accomplished, and you list all the failings of the subjectivists...so...one would think in such a wonderful objectivist Universe we'd be...
