Industry needs a new marketing argument after 4k to sell new TVs. It could be either 8k or 4k/3D. IMO the latter offers more of a distinction and advantage for most people. Especially since screen sizes have increased which makes for a better 3D experience. Therefore I would expect a possible...
Older Movies I have watched with my now 15 year old son during the last 3 years: 2001 Space odyssey, Back to the future 1-3, Jaws 1, Jurassic Park 1, Indiana Jones, Die Hard 1, North by Northwest, Star Trek 2-4 and 6 etc. And he liked them all.
I use it all the time, mostly to access my music/photos/movies which are on my macmini a floor above. This allows listening to lossless music on my main Stereo (with Remote App) and watching slide shows of my photos and home movies on the projector. Much more comfortable than fiddling with...
If you want to avoid iTunes, there are several apps, some of them free, for the iPad that allow simple file transfer via Wifi, e.g. Phonedrive. This is, how I do it.
Re EQ: I can only report that almost everyone who compared Audyssey and ARC preferred the latter, especially for music. It is rather more comparable to Audyssey Pro, since the calculations are performed one a computer, not inside the receiver, and you can tweak much more to your preferences.
The Anthem mrx does not have any special mp3 treatment that I am aware of. On the other hand mp3 may still sound better due to other factors. Video processing is described by reviews as adequate; I do not use it (Oppo 93 upscales DVD)
I recommend the Anthem mrx receiver line due to its exceptional room correction system ARC. You could use the mrx 300 (smallest) as a prepro together with external amp, or try the mrx 700 with much stronger internal amplification which will suffice under almost all normal circumstances. I...
1) Lawrence of Arabia
2) Schindlers List
3) The Godfather
4) The Shawshank Redemption
5) North by Northwest
6) 2001
7) Once Upon a Time in the West
8) Some like it hot
9) Wall-E
10) LOTR Trilogy
Has your MP3 player a line in input? Then the easiest way is to just let the DVD play with the MP3 player connected via line in, and record. I have the iAudio F2 and it does that wonderfully. This way I record DVD commentaries to listen to on trips.
Dear Mr. Harris,
I am glad that an esteemed film connoisseur as you approves of this movie. I love Van Helsing, but most people and reviewers seem to hate the movie. I think one just has to "get" the special mix of homage and satire, full of winking allusions. Of course it is not meant...
I like this version of the Mozart very much: www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/1443

Emma Watson is more in the foreground which may let her seem taller than she is. In the other 2 pictures she does not seem to be much taller than Radcliffe. Anyway, size doesn´t matter, right?
Deinterlacing is not so easy, and deinterlacers make errors. It is the same as with DVDs which are 480i: If the deinterlacer makes an error, you will see jaggies or other artefacts. My Sharp Blu-ray Player for example is not very good in deinterlacing 1080i Material, dito my Panasonic AE2000...
Nice. Now we need somebody to pick up the Golden Compass and finish the trilogy, please. I would hate it if the first one would be kept standing alone.
Especially if you have a good TV, you will see the difference clearly. The better and larger your display, the bigger the difference. Blu-ray all the way!
I agree with the OP, that a good BD seems to have more detail than an average theatrical presentation, at least those i saw. Reason: Often you watch a copy of a copy of a copy (and so on), i.e. several generations down the line. With each copying resolution is lost. My totally unscientific guess...
I agree with your assessment of Crystal skull and Last crusade. Although one could argue that Connery is the one saving grace of Crusade. Otherwise it would have been just a shallow rehash of Raiders.
I agree with Carlo. Yesterday I watched "Nightmare before Christmas" and it was jarring to navigate the Menu. Even the sound dropped out for some seconds. Fortunately, most Studios seem to keep the pop-up menu simple. I like Warners and Sonys best.
Unfortunately, BD players are also slow with DVDs, at least my Sharp is. There seems to be coming an Oppo BD player this winter with the superb upconverting/deinterlacing solution of the Oppo 983. Might be worth waiting for.
Of course it all depends on the kid, but with our 2 children, it was no problem to start watching movies again quite soon after birth (a few weeks). First my wife was sometimes tired until the night breaks got down to one, so we watched shorter movies. Normally it is no problem to get a kid of 2...
