    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

George, I would not change the the power cord on mine as the original is already an overkill for the current this device draws. It is not a power amp. If you do not have any wicked voltage fluctuations in your area, adding another power line conditioner (on top of what AVM20 has...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I am not surprised Anthem is considering a separate box. Some time ago I asked Nick if they would not consider an approach similar to the Bryston processor and he said that they were already. Nice, besides the clean circuitry separation, a separate box would provide more flexibility and extra...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Lévesque, did you know your passion is contagious. Looking froward to your opinion. I would guess your AVM 20 is already gone so no A-B (or A-B-A to be more correct) comparison will be possible... GK

    "Secrets" announces Anthem's D-1

I followed the link and it seems the True Differential design gives you nothing over True Balanced design, if the later is properly designed (which is likely the case with AVM20). I believe D1 will outfeature AVM20 in time as it can possibly accommodate more new features like parametric room...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Eliminating digital noise (from SAT receivers and HTPCs for example) is one of the reasons I try to use optical connections between these and the Anthem. Another one is ground loops. My next HTPC motherboard or sound card will have an optical output as well. I have heard the argument before that...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I am pretty sure the electrician knows what he is doing. I would put all electronics on one phase in the new sub-panel, and may leave lighting and stuff on the other phase off the main panel. It is good to have all your lighting on one phase as it is easier to control with X10 type of devices...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Lévesque, With long runs, ground loops can sometimes be a problem. This would also depend on other equipment you will use and how you design the electrical circuits in your new room. GK

    No sound from AVM-20

David, You have two more options before sending the unit for repair. Download the latest SW version (or use whatever you use now, if you keep the file around) and reload the SW, as Michael suggested. Save your settings before doing this. As a last step, if it still does not work, I would also...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

This article underlines again why we, Anthem owners, feel that Anthem should not give up on this product yet. If it takes HW upgrade (i.e.$) for some features, so be it. From what I have seen people ask for, a whish list for future evolution would include: - high speed digital...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

It may make sense for Anthem to upgrade the processing power first and pave the road to future SW upgrades. After all, these will be crunched for the upcoming D1 anyway. The current AVM20 processing platform may require much more development effort in order to squeeze these features without...

Need help deciding Best HT Processor under 5K

Mike, From what you say, you want to practically eliminate the internal sub x-overs by setting them all at their maximum levels, and let the processor do your bass management. I see nothing wrong with feeding all these different subs with the same x-over point from the processor. If you want...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I would second the two processor upgrade as an item in the wish list. Since the AVM20 and the D1 run the same OS, AVM 20 owners will benefit from more of the new features that will be developed for the D1. Hopefully, this will not be seen by SF as detrimental for perspective D1 sales. The volume...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Chris, Follow and read this Secrets link and then open the pdf document it refers to, by Floyd E. Toole. It talks about where two subs should be placed. It seems to suggest that the two subs should be placed closer to each of the front speakers, and at a certain distance from your room...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

OK, how about discussing new features Anthem AVM20 owners may want to enjoy as future upgrades. Apparently, the latest SW release addressed lots of concerns/suggestions/wishes. What could or should be next? What is the best next thing that can lead to sound or convenience improvement for most of...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Right. I would not worry at all about the fact that the MCA-50 has no switch. I am sure Anthem made their pieces mate perfectly. Perhaps all AMV-20 testing was done by using the MCA-50 as an amp, and my guess is they used the best Paradigm speakers ;) GK

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

But you did switch between RCA and XLR on the back of your amplifier (which I believe is a bryston kind). That switch would also compensate for the different levels of XLR and RCA signals, hence no audible level difference. GK

When should one engage THX processing...

I did not see an answer to this basic question on the Dolby site so here it is: If a DVD is TXH certified/enhanced, does that mean that Re-EQ, Timbre matching and Adaptive Decorelation have already been factored in the recording itself and thus, there is no need to engage the THX processing...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I had the MCA-50 amp over but cannot remember if there is a switch on the back to select which inputs are being used. My Bryston does have this switch and I believe it reduces the amplifier gain to compensate for the stronger input voltage on the XLR inputs. The switch position may affect the...

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

Just came across an article by Secrets in which they express an opinion on how will/should future processors do room EQ, in a nut shell it should be the low frequencies only, which is where the Anthem started ;) A quote: "...The current Lexicon automatic room correction system handles (1)...

    Bryston SST Amplifiers

I know there is enough said already, but another thing some people may get influenced by, well I did ;) The Bryston 9BSST and a couple of the other Brystons (can't recall which) got Class A (highest) rating by Stereophile magazine (not SGHT), for pure musical performance. GK

    The Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 2.1

I have no doubt Firewire is coming on the AVM20, it was confirmed many times. Not sure how stable the standard is, but I rather have it a bit late than incompatible with some players. I expect D1 to have it from the start. As for the auto-calibration, there is no doubt it improves the sound...

I have Mirage M5 towers on the front, Mirage MC-si in the center and PSB Alphas as surrounds (direct radiating). I was thinking of moving the PSBs to the back as rears. I would prefer to go with Mirage for the surrounds if possible, but if di-polls is the way to go, I may consider other brands...
