Does anyone have experience with Look TV?
I've just ordered it but I don't know anybody else with it. The reason I ordered it is because I like the channel packages better and their price was better. Plus I'm in direct line of sight to the transmission tower. The fact the dish is only 6" wide...
At least that's what this place claims.

I've checked around, and a few places claim to have them in stock, at least for the Panasonic. I've been on vacation - out of the loop. How long have these been out?
I don't have time to rewatch everything right now before I get rid of some discs. Please comment on my decisions: Run Lola Run: threw out my old version anyway, because it was defective. Yi Yi (A One And A Two): I'm keeping my old one because although the video quality is terrible, it has...
Just a thing I noticed. Dunno if anyone has posted this already. I turned on the English subtitles and noticed it seems they're trying to match the subtitles with the actor geographically on screen. That's fine and dandy but in a few spots the subtitles end up right on the faces of the...

Blockbuster has made it onto www.dumbwarnings.com with advice to rewind DVDs.
I don't rent from Blockbuster - the local one went out of business because they were so behind in adopting DVD rentals. (The local ex-LD rental shop went DVD as soon as it was out, while the local Blockbuster was...
This affects the Pioneer DVD-7000 and the Sony RDR-A1 (which is a Pioneer DVD-7000 in disguise).
I don't know what this glitch is, and if it's just going to take a firmware update or what to correct the problem.
See here.
I have the Fox Lorber one, which ain't that great. Is there another better one available anywhere? Strangely enough, this entire DVD is only 3.5 GB. I thought that in the very least the people would try to make use of the space available on disc but on this one 1/5th of the disc is still...
Ecost.com is taking preorders on the Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD recorder.

If you can read Japanese, here are the specs...
I have a Panasonic RP91 and a Panasonic LF-D311 DVD-RAM/-R drive.
I know the RP91 works fine with DVD-RAM as I have played one disc back successfully from a Hitachi DVD-RAM camcorder. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have a DVD-RAM PC drive so I couldn't see how the file structure was...
OK the commercial amplified S-video splitters around here seem to be in the US$170 and up range.
I'm prepared to spend that but are there cheaper solutions? How about this Link Removed? Link Removed seems to be using the product for their setup.
This is for fairly low-mid end purposes (no HDTV...
A friend has a Link Removed and took some video of Niagara Falls. He came back, gave the disc to me, and we watched in full DVD glory on my Panasonic RP91 his home movie of some unknown cat taking a turd. (Dunno which firmware, but it is one of the older ones.)
Very nice. :)
Too bad the...
I cannot do objective measurements but I have done some subjective testing nonetheless. I don't know the specifics of the Apple software, but it uses some form of Fraunhofer, and rumour has it evolved from SoundJam (which I've never used). Anyways, the software is sort of like AudioCatalyst...
I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this, but I thought some of you may know.
We currently have an Elmo EDP-2100.
500 ANSI lumens.
1024x768 compressed support. True 800x600.
Throw Dist (feet): 3.6 - 36.0.
Quite frank it looks crappy when fed a 1024x768 source. The downsampling is...
When I first started reading about DVD one of the biggest features I thought it offered was the ability for machines to extract pan and scan directly off a properly flagged widescreen DVD. This would have solved the OAR issue once and for all, as all DVDs would be widescreen, with the option of...
OK, call me stupid, but I'm now getting mixed up about DVD cases. Amaray? Snapper? etc. Does someone have a list of names and aliases?
Also, it seems to me cases are different sized in different parts of the world. Inserts from movies from the other side of the globe don't fit in our North...
Does this TV lock into full in progressive scan mode?

Check out my switched Dual Boot DVD Player Hack.
My GF wants to buy a pair of shielded Paradigm Atoms for her TV. The amplification will be the TV actually - it has an amp with speaker level outputs, and her original speakers are toast. I tried my old Titans with it and to my surprise it sounded quite good.
Unfortunately, she has nothing on...
The GF wants to start home theater. I have suggested a pair of shielded Paradigm Atom or PSB Alpha Mini. If I recall correctly when I (superficially) looked many moons ago the Atom with shielding was around $240 CAD, and the PSB Alpha Mini (already shielded) was around $250. Is that about right...
OK, I just saw this movie and I know many of you may hate it, but I was intrigued. I don't love it, but it certainly was one of the most odd and interesting movies I've seen in a while, and I think it's worth adding to my collection.
How is the DVD quality, and quality of the extras? I...
What is the absolute easiest DVD player to work out there?
My mom has a 27" lowish to mid end 4:3 Toshiba TV with S-video and now wants DVD. Her English is mediocre but easily gets by.
I want to get her the absolutely easiest player in existence to use.
I'm considering multi-region, but only...
I got the Region 1 NTSC version of Link Removed , but the transfer is truly terrible. Even my Apex converting PAL movies to NTSC is much better.
Are there any other versions of Yi Yi out there?

How different is the new Toshiba 34HF81C from the old Link Removed ?
It now claims 3:2 pulldown conversion, where as the old version claimed "Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion". The former is now named "IDSCpro". Whatever the case I know for a fact that the image quality in interlaced mode...
Well it's actually the Link Removed , and it's progressive scan. Note that I can't read the specs either... they're in Chinese.
OK, I haven't been able to test this machine, but I have seen it with my own eyes in the store (Jinan, China). It looks exactly the same as my RP91, although it...
I can't seem to find the Malata N996 easily here. (It's called WanLiDar here.) I've been to several stores, including GuoMei, and they say it's kind of an old model, and have stopped carrying it.
What do you think about the Pioneer DV-5310KD vs. the Pioneer DV-3310 ?
I'm going to be using...
I've been trying out the latest Hitachi DVD-RAM handheld camcorder - very nice.
Link Removed
It uses 8 cm DVD-RAM discs in a disc cartridge, but the media is removable from the cartridge. The Hitachi instruction manual says it uses DVD-RAM Book 2.1 compatible 1.4 GB discs (per side), at 30...
Somebody on another site pointed me to the Pioneer DV-533K aka DV-5310KD (with region free)
Reports are:
Codefree and RCE compatible
Slimline (5.5 cm thick) with nice gold colour
Progressive scan (Can't confirm this this, and dunno about scaling)
Component out.
PAL NTSC conversion...
The Story of Qiu Ju (Qiu Ju Da Guan Si is a movie I've been waiting for on DVD for just about forever. It wasn't supposed to be out, but I was in a Chinese movie store in Toronto yesterday and I saw it there, plain as day, sitting on the shelf. The label is China Star DVD.
However, there was...
