Hello Dave, I noticed your review of the PAP TrioTB and wanted to ask you some more of your impressions of the PAP sound, especially since you ran them mixed with box speakers as part of your HT. I am thinking of replacing my mains for 2 channel use with the Quintet 15s and keeping my center...
Well, the trailer looks amazing...
I'm not a fan of J.J.'s Star Trek films, especially STID, but I liked Super 8 and I think Star Wars is right in his wheelhouse.
There is one aspect that has me a bit worried though: :P
Can anyone confirm if the BR of Raiders has the digitally removed hydraulic pole that flips the truck onto its side? I think it was removed for the DVD release, but I'm pretty sure I saw it back in the IMAX print that I saw a couple of weekends ago. That effect was always obvious, so I'm...
I will grace you all with my presence to give some much needed backup to Chuck. :D My wife and I saw it, along with my almost 5 year old son (who forced us to take him)- and all of us loved it. My expectations were that it was going to be the biggest turd in history- having seen the trailers...
Going way back to the first post of the thread...a minor correction. The Planet P. attack in Starship Troopers and basically all shots with the bugs in that movie were done by Phil Tippett Studios, not ILM. Pioneering and stunning work to say the least- it's amazing how well SST effects hold...
I'm shocked at the bucks for the Simpsons!! Who would've thunk it? I'd be surprised if Transformers passed Spidey3, though regardless, the biggest hits overall will be Pirates 3 and Harry Potter because of their massive overseas totals. :) -Dennis
Hey, nice to see some old faces still around here! :)
Was the consensus good on the SE of Titanic? (referring to video and audio quality)
I've always had a soft spot for Titanic, while acknowledging its many faults. I'm just anxious for Battle Angel or something- anything new from Cameron...
All this score talk has me pumped! I'm going to listen to Ep.3 soundtrack tonight...and another one of my favorite scores of all time- Conan the Barbarian...operatic indeed! :) -Dennis
Lou: I'm basing my prediction partly on the explanation of the storyline and evolution of the film from a former employee of Pixar. He is the biggest cheerleader of all things Pixar to this day, loves all of their films, but is convinced that the story and concept of Cars are extremely weak...
I'll predict now that Cars will be Pixar's first "disappointment" ever at the box office. I think it will barely get past the $200M mark at the box office. The big head to head is X3 vs Superman Returns, and I'm excited to see which one comes out on top. Above all, I hope they are all good...
I completely agree, and it's plainly obvious that this was intended to be the tentpole film of the holiday season, but it's just not turning out that way for whatever reason as we can all see. The fact that it'll be viewed as a disappointment is also plainly obvious to anyone even mildly...
Even with a soft box office run- let's break it down: $200 million domestic $250 million international $450 million total Now add in the lucrative home video sales, another $200 million? Certainly. Now add-in all the ancillary stuff- the video game sales, toy and other mechandising...
Hey, as a former New Yorker and now living in Northern California myself, I agree with Dave 100% on the whole off-topic burger thing. :D I'd put CE3K, Raiders, and Jaws on a similar level overall. Raiders is probably the greatest pure adventure movie ever made, IMO. WOTW is definitely...
Also, I noticed that ROTS actually was up 5.7% from last week at $350K estimated. It looks like it will squeak past $380 million possibly by Labor Day weekend. Kudos! And it has a solid chance of breaking into the top 10 worldwide box office hits by the end of its run overseas (Japan's final...
Let's not forget that WOTW's first Friday and weekend was the potent 4th of July weekend, so a 59% drop isn't that surprising, especially when FF grabs $20M the same day! So I don't think that has much (if anything) to do with word of mouth in this case. -Dennis
WOTW's weekend estimate is 66.0 million from bomojo. I think that's just Friday thru Sunday, though it's not clear currently as they don't even have the full list up yet. -Dennis
I really hope it does well Chuck, I finally saw it and think it's by far the best of the Batman films (no contest, though Jack really did own film 1 as The Joker). Like everyone and their mother says in a SW film though, "I've got a bad feeling about this". The marketing was low-key and...
I don't believe "word of mouth" will matter for a comic book film such as Batman. The film is dark, and it is a comic book film on a character that already had 4 big budget feature films made about him very recently (even by Hollywood standards). I've been saying it for a while now, the...
