    1080i question.

Really? I heard people say that 720p has some advantages, since it is progressive. I've heard still images look better in 1080i and moving images look better in 720p. But for film, it probably wouldn't matter since it's filmed 24fps.

    1080i question.

Question: If I'm watching a film broadcast in 1080i/60, there should be no advantage of 720p or 1080p, right? I would assume since interlacing combines 2 fields to make one full frame, I would still get 30 full frames, and since films are shot with 24fps, that's more than enough. Or am I...

    Don't bug me

I've had my Toshiba for about a month now and have not experienced any bugs. Sure, it's a bit slow and the remote isn't perfect (I ordered a Harmony 880 anyway), but if people can't wait 30 seconds for a movie, they should reduce their caffeine intake. I use firmware v1.4 and every movie has...

    Fox Executive's prediction on Blu-ray!

Yes, but the next gen systems (X-Box 360 and PS3) are designed specifically for HD/DD5.1 and more people will hook them up to their main HTs to take advantage of that. David

    X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

The worst comic book adaptations are the ones true to the comics. Movies and comic books are completely different mediums of storytelling and what works for one doesn't work for the other. The movie would've been a cartoon with cardboard characters had it been truly faithful, with all the...

    X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)

She didn't want to kill Wolverine because a part of her has feelings for him. That's why she didn't kill him when he visited her in the woods. You can tell she was conflicted and might've even left with him had Magneto not shown up. When Wolverine stabs her, she asks him to. It was suicide...

*** Offficial THE DA VINCI CODE Discussion Thread

I admit that when I first read the book, I believed that all the theories and conspiracies were true. Hey, I consider myself an intelligent man. However, I'm not religious, have never read the bible, and the only thing I know about Jesus is that he existed and there are people who worship him...

    The Shanghai Kid

Haha, I loved that episode. "I yell Cartwright! Cartwright!" The composer is David Kitay. He does all Terry Zwigoff movies like Bad Santa, Ghost World and the new Art School Confidential. Also composed the scores for The Ice Harvest, Harold and Kumar, Clueless, Look Who's Talking, Look Who's...

    The Shanghai Kid

We're just finishing post right now. Still have to do the sound mix and ADR. Our composer is finishing up the score. It turned out better than I could've hoped for. I'm really proud of it. Everybody who I've shown it to calls it an Asian Woody Allen film, which is great. Woody Allen is...

That ridiculous! Reese Witherspoon can't open a movie. Only 1 of her films has grossed over $100MIL (SWEET HOME ALABAMA). WALK THE LINE doesn't count as it's a Johnny Cash biopic with a built-in audience. She doesn't even deserve $15MIL much less $25MIL. She was paid $15MIL for VANITY FAIR and...

Annual income of your average Hollywood actor?

Philip Baker Hall will make six figures for a movie which he has a substantial role, but he'll probably shoot for 3 months too, which is not far off from the 8k a week I guesstimated, although that figure maybe a bit low, in hindsight. He may be as high as 15k or so. But I can tell you right...

Annual income of your average Hollywood actor?

Answer: not much. If you're not a recognizable name, you'll make SAG scale, which is about $700 a day. Let's look at the actors in your pictures: Philip Baker Hall is somewhat of a name, so his quote would probably be about $8,000 a week on studio films, much less on indie films. Last year...

    The Shanghai Kid

First week in Shanghai went well. The crew here is amazing. We're working with most of the crew from Hero and House of Flying Daggers. Just saw a lot of the footage from the LA portion edited together and it looks great. Let me know if anybody wants to read the screenplay and I'll e-mail...

I just got into Shanghai tonight. Will finish up prep here. Ken and Kelly get in next week. I just looked at all the dailies we shot in LA and it all looks amazing! We're shooting 35MM Anamorphic, using Darius Khondji's lenses, and it's beautiful. Hayden Panettiere will be the next Natalie...

If Warner's knew that, they wouldn't have made the film. Like I said, these tentpole films are designed to make at least a few times its budget. Let's see what Batman needs to make to see a profit. $135mil - estimated production budget (probably more given the cast, but I'm going by the...

    2005 at the Box Office

Oh and by the way, don't rely on IMDb for budget information. True movie budgets are closely guarded secrets. For example, Garden State's actual budget is $3.8mil even though Zach Braff will tell you it's $2.5mil. It for sold at Sundance for $5mil and it just makes better publicity to say...

    2005 at the Box Office

Even if Batman makes 1.5x its budget domestically, it will be profitable, but will still be a bomb in WB's eyes. Something like 80% of films lose money, especially with the high cost of marketing nowadays. The reason why studios make so many movies is that 1 hit will pay for half a dozen...

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Spider Man 2 hit $300M in 19 Days and still only made $373M. ROTS hit $300M in 17 so it should make a few more than Spider Man 2. I'd say it'll end up with about $380M David

Your worst movie of the year list in this decade from 2000 to present

Because going to a bad movie is not neccessarily an unenjoyable experience, and in many cases, it can be more fun than a good movie. I can watch Catwoman, recognize how awful it is, but would rather see that on a Saturday night than see Schindler's List again, which is great but very long and...

    Sundance!

I'm in Sundance right now and have seen 16 films so far. The ones I loved were: The Matador - Pierce Brosnan gives his best performance to date 212 - One of the BEST romantic comedies ever (On par with Before Sunrise and Eternal Sunshine) Pretty Persuasion - This non-PC teen comedy...

    Are directors always distinctive?

Ummm... what is it do you think directors do? Directing comedic performances is especially hard because comedy is more subjective than drama. And trust me, a bad director can make any compelling story boring. David
