I may have been burned mailorder!

Thanks for the response Keith. I have checked the bank..and the check has cleared. I also wrote the check out to his company- which I feel is in my favor because obviously I paid for a good or service. I also have phone records to and from him on his cell phone and office phone. He is a one...

I may have been burned mailorder!

Hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction. I have been doing business with a audio guy for about 18 months now..I call him up, tell him what I need..send him a check..and he sends my stuff. In other words most of the time its verbal. I've bought amps, cables, audio stuff in...

Denon 5800 upgrade or Pioneer VS49TX

Aslam said it best in the first reply- If I were going to spend 2 or 3 grand on equipment, I would most definitely be looking at the separates route. The 5800 and 49TX are fine machines, but the Outlaw with a standalone amp is probably a better bet. If you are willing to spend a little more...

Flagship Receiver vs the Outlaw 950???

One thing to keep in mind when comparing the Outlaw and Denon and true "high end" pre amps like Lexicon..as you move up the scale in amplifier and speaker qualities the performance gap will widen considerably between them. Although I'm certain you are not getting 4 or 6 grand of "quality" sound...

What's the deal with the Lexicon MC-1

Mark- I wouldn't call the improvements in the MC-12 over the MC-1 night and day. I don't think there is a HUGE difference in the quality of sound between the 2..but the MC-12's bass management and new Logic 7 are really the reasons I went with it. I don't use DPLII, or some of the DTS...

What's the deal with the Lexicon MC-1

Nope...the MC-1 has been "replaced" by the new flagship MC-12 from Lexicon. The MC-1 will do everything out there surround sound wise thats important right now (at least IMO). I just purchased a new MC-12, and kept my MC-1 to trade in on a newer processor down the road. Lexicon is coming out...

    RP91- Any in stock??

Rand- The RP91's from J&R are due in this week, or the first of next week...but they are 499.00, not 434.00. I'd like to know who you talked to...my salesman told me they've never had them that low.

    RP91- Any in stock??

I ordered my RP91 a few days ago, and got a confirmation saying its BACKORDERED. Has anyone heard of any places that have these in stock? J&R is the only place I've found it reasonable...at 509 delivered. I have seen prices quoted around 425-460, though.....any ideas?

    5803 Link

Ron- The MC-1 is a stout performer, even if it lacks all the newer bells and whistles. To be honest..I had to sit down and REALLY listen to hear the differences between the MC-1 and MC-12. It was not a night/day difference, at least to my ears. Seriously. Now, when I upgraded from the...

    ***Official Outlaw 950 Thread ***

Merc- I should have clarified...PERFORMANCE SPECS. I have seen none, and haven't heard any mentioned. And...cutting out the middleman is nice...but your still talking a shoestring budget at that price. It is, at least IMHO, the most overhyped product that I have seen to date. But...

    ***Official Outlaw 950 Thread ***

I don't own an Outlaw product..I don't plan on getting an Outlaw product..and I don't want an Outlaw product. On that note...isn't it a little odd that a product thats supposedly being released for the last 2 months doesn't even have specs available to view?? And I hate to say it, but I really...

DTV is a joke! Please tell me I'm wrong.

Richard B- I am in the same boat as you..I currently have a 60" 4x3 RPTV, and have been browsing the sales here during the holidays. No doubt you can get a KILLER deal on an HDTV. Last night at Circuit City, they dropped the price of the new Sony 57" HDTV (the one getting the rave...

Denon 5802 is coming............ soon, maybe

Jeremy- I actually had a buddy who stated he had seen the AVR-6000 in Japan being touted as the successor to the 5800. I dunno- I own seperates, so I kinda just listened casually about the equipment he had seen at an audio expo a few months back. Who knows?

Home Depot 12-2 Speaker Wire... any problems with running it in-wall?

Wayne- LOL! Good one. You have to wonder about A LOT of rules and codes that are dreamed up.

Home Depot 12-2 Speaker Wire... any problems with running it in-wall?

If you are running the wire in-wall, without any sheetrock in place, then your best bet is to use a 90 degree drill and run plastic conduit thru the studs. Then you can pull your wire thru the conduit, and if it ever has to be replaced, its as simple as pulling it out, and pulling a new wire...

    Need opinions on Bryston amplifiers...

I also used Bryston amps...they are killer for the money. Lexicon actually uses a rebadged version of the Brystons for their line of matching amplifiers. I wonder why you would dump that kind of money into amplifiers to run with a Denon 5800, though. I'm not knocking the Denon, but I don't feel...

No warranty from non-authorized online retailers?

Actually- they are "required" by law to give a warranty per se...its basically a "fitness of merchantability" warranty, or something to that effect. It basically means that as a manufacturer, if you offer a product for sale to a consumer, you are bound to guarantee the said product is to perform...

    Help with line conditioners...

"Good reviews? It literally smells when it's running, you can hear the physical "clicks" as the variactor switches between tap settings to dial in the correct voltage, and the LEDs are too bright. (That's 3 of the 5 senses!)" That came off one review that I recall reading, and from what I...

    Help with line conditioners...

The Monster AVS2000 has recieved some good reviews- I would use it above all other Power Conditioners that Monster makes. The HTS5000, and the new model, the HTS5100, won't pass enough current to keep big HT amps singing. I am looking at the new 5100 to power my Lexicon and CD player and...

!!!! GROUP PURCHASE SURVEY: What would our members like to see offered? !!!!

Bill- "What people have found is that they buy on a basis of actual equipment, service and good information. To get that one needs dedicated retailers and/or HIGH-SERVICE websites. These are few and far between as we all know. Rather than knocking the last 10 bucks off and concentrating sales...

Is the Lexicon MC-1 the best sound processor?

Randy G- If you read thru the posts at SMR's forum, you will see I posted a response basically saying I had decided to sever my ties after 12+ years with Lexicon due to a stagnant state on the MC-1. No upgrades, or announcements have been announced for it. I was basically told to...

Is the Lexicon MC-1 the best sound processor?

Ben- I would call the sound of the MC-1 neutral..what goes in, comes out. I also think its 2 channel performance is underated...but then again..if you want 2 channel performance- why are you buying a 7 channel HT processor? Also...FWIW..I have gotten very good information that Lexicon...

    MC-1, SVS, and Servo-15

Tom- >>>>>>Maybe, but a single servo15 is going to be hard pressed to reach full reference levels in anything >2000 cu-ft regardless. Also, I'm assuming "-10dB" on the MC-1 corresponds with 10dB under reference levels? Btw--how do you calibrate your sub...2-3dB over on the RS meter like most of...

    MC-1, SVS, and Servo-15

Thanks for the reply TV....my room is open to a huge walk-in hallway, but the area per say is the "HT Room"..and you are right..the Servo sounds good and deep to around -10db on the MC-1's volume control..then the bass is there, but is not an "impacting" bass..not as deep as I'd like. I think...
