I've put off watching Becket for no good reason. It pairs well with that Christmas favorite, The Lion in Winter. What family doesn't have its ups and downs?
For an accurate historical account of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and the Four Kings, by Amy Kelly (1950) is worth reading.
A civil lawsuit would be foolish and unproductive. However, a criminal prosecution does not require that the victim make a formal complaint. While Smith, if convicted, would likely receive diversion and counseling, rather than jail time, a prosecution for such a public offense would send...
For those opining that a bad (or hurtful) joke is an assault, or that a slap is not criminal conduct, a look at California's defining statutes may be instructive. A verbal insult is not an assault and any offensive touching can be a criminal battery.
Penal Code Section 240: An assault is...
I've already expressed my dislike of the steelbook's artwork for this release of LoA in the Press Release thread and won't say more here. I am curious if anyone has an address (electronic or USPS) for someone at Sony who might have the power to reissue the artwork from the big box version...
I've been waiting for LoA as a single 4K release. In this era of declining optical media I didn't expect Sony to replicate its outstanding 50th anniversary treatment. However, this steel box is both unnecessary (how many fans want a metal case ?) and beyond ugly. My best recourse may be...
Bill Hunt, over at the Digital Bits, linked to a German site announcing that Sony was releasing several individual movies from the boxset. LoA was not included in the new release news. Perhaps Sony will wait for the 60th Anniversary in 2022? As optical media makes up less and less of the...
I'm glad I received my disc yesterday from Amazon before I read this thread. Comparing my earlier BD with the 4k rendition on a 65" OLED, I see a marked improvement. As an earlier quoted review noted, details pop, fabrics are more distinct, golden armbands sparkle, the Ethiopians in the...
I am another of those who LOVE this movie, after seeing it in its original theatrical release and owning most video versions over the years. It irks me that Sony has only released this in a 4k package with movies I don't care to own, and then let that package go OOP so that the only method to...
Ron's link is the problem. Once you follow Ron's link to Amazon, click on the "Blu-ray $28.65" button. That will take you to the proper Amazon page, which states the disc will be available tomorrow, May 7th.
In Amazon's usual fashion, reviews of the disc are for multiple releases, DVD and...
I saw this on Wednesday on the true IMAX screen in Sacramento. It's among, and probably at the top of, the great cinema experiences I've had. The clarity of the pictures, the scenes selected in the editing process, the musical soundtrack, all worked together to create an unforgettable...
Maybe I'm missing something here... If changing the cable connections reversed the loss of signal from left to right, the problem may not be with the VCR. It could be that the audio cable is bad. Put a new white/red audio cable into the system connecting the VCR and receiver.
It's a terrific look at almost all aspects of the production of the movie. We've discussed it before, but a reminder doesn't hurt.
Also, it's available from public libraries in Kindle formatting for those who've switched to ebooks...
I checked one Kindle version advertised as "1922." It was the abridged 1926 version that loaded to my Kindle.
Thanks for the link to Abe's Books. Mine is the same volume, #488. That's some appreciation!
Not so strange, I think. Even though LoA has been streaming for several years in 4K, it is really in the past 18 months that 4K displays and 4K Blu-ray players have become common and the release of titles in the medium has been significant. Now, with It's a Wonderful Life released in 4K only...
I have great faith in Mr. Harris's opinions; he gives me hope that eventually this film will be released on a 4K UHD disc. I'm glad I have the 50th Anniversary Blu-ray with all the swag in its big box. The current streaming version of LoA is SDR. HDR, especially Dolby Vision, adds a great...
Bill Hunt complained yesterday that it appears Sony may limit the 4K UHD release of LoA to streaming media, with no disc release in the planning stages, as far as he can determine. This is much worse than the similar situation with It's a Wonderful Life, at least for me as LoA is among my top...
