Just my opinion...But I want from a DIY using the PE Dayton DVC12 in a good, ported enclosure tuned to 22Hz. It had great kick and sound, but it caused too many problems with its placement (I had it mounted in my entertainment cabinet and so it limited my loudness ability...rattles and...
If you're sure you haven't lost power, then it's a faulty receiver. If you still suspect the power strip, plug the HK directly into the wall and see what happens. In the past, I've had instances where my receivers lose their settings during power outages, but only when plugged into surge protectors.
Any 2.5mm headset will work, except those for Nokia phones, which swap mic/ear signals. However, you may need to file the new plug a little for a good fit, as the MS communicator has a special socket for a locking fit. Compare two plugs and you'll see what I mean.
Auto shutoff is often caused by a short (yours sounds like a single strand that's close to touching) in the speaker wiring, even as random as you've described. I suggest rewiring your speakers on both ends, and if you can, use banana plugs at the receiver connections. It's very difficult to see...
I haven't bought a receiver in a long time, and I don't keep up with the latest unless I'm in the market BUT, I know Onkyo refers to this feature as IntelliVolume. If you're looking at an Onkyo, see if this feature is still included.
Best Buy sells gift cards in their store. They have several 'themed' ones, and the one for gamers includes a $5 off coupon for any game/accessory priced $19.99 or higher. Just buy one/put $15 on it, cut out the coupon, and proceed to game shopping! It's a great way to stock up on...
This deal is still beatable with a little extra work: using the Gamer Gift Card. Hey, if they want to give me a $5 off coupon for buying one of those, who am I to say no? :)
If you're mostly playing online against friends, PS2 is just as "user-friendly" as Live imo. Even with Xbox Live, I find pre-arranged games are the way to go. Just as easily done on PS2. OTOH, if you're looking to meet new gamers online, Xbox Live's universal gamertag system is unbeatable. JMHO.
Very interesting! So you had determined that it was actual 60Hz 'noise' coming through your system, and not just a 'mechanical' type of hum? Did you check your power supply caps as well, as this model plate amp should have 100V rated caps (some shipped with 80V caps that eventually leak and...
I have to correct myself on my previous message regarding the use of the Jasper jig. Doing some of this so-called simple math, I just figured out that my previous 1/32" increment statement is wrong. Using an odd diameter x/64" bit actually gives you 1/64" accuracy, so finding/using an odd...
Gary, I think you'd be very happy with twin sealed Tempests. But, there is the possibility that their summed response in your room would be detrimental. What would be their distance apart? I'm assuming each would occupy the bottom space adjacent to both sides of your tv. Mark, It's true...
There are many answers to your questions. But I always start by asking how much space is available for the enclosure. You already have that answer. So, I'd follow by first looking at Adire's site and downloading the plans for their recommended enclosures. IMO, if you can fit a vented design in...
Wood thickness doesn't relate to magnetic shielding. I'd suggest placing the woofer to be used in its approximate position (to be installed) and checking for convergence errors on the tv screen.
Have you eliminated the sound as coming from the speaker cone? ie, when the subs are humming, can you stop the humming by putting your hand on the speaker? If you're questioning the 1V difference, didn't you verify that the subs still hum in the room where the voltage readings were 1V lower...
My quick experience recap:I decided to simply fill my space with a standalone DIY sub, which is good idea in case you ever want a change. I could never isolate the sub from the cabinet, loud volumes would eventually lead to skipping dvds or cds. Whatever you decide, you need to decide the...
Are you sure you don't have any flourescent/halogen (?) type lamps in use? Try cutting power off to the other rooms one by one to see if you can isolate the source. Just an idea.
I'll have to ask a friend if his sub has this problem with his new Nokia. But I do know that the phone makes his car stereo and his desktop speakers 'hum'.
Greg, When I first contacted HK about the L7 problem, the repair required shipping the unit the HK for repair. Being a new owner, I didn't feel like parting with my new toy. About 1 year later, I was in a position to be without the receiver for a while, so I contacted them again to make...
JohnSer, Do you know if the service bulletin actually fixes the defective Logic7 SBR issue? I took my 320 in for that problem, but the tech wasn't convinced that it would fix it, and she was afraid to 'go in there' and do something for nothing. Alas, nothing was done.
That's very interesting Frank, and it does sound like there's no longer a bass boost in place. You may have noticed I had problems with the unit I received about one year ago, relating to its turn-on circuitry (don't know if it was defective or a bad design). It's possible a new preamp design...
The question may be answered correctly my MCM if they are asked: "Does this amp have a bass boost?" If the schematic that they sent me is correct for what they are presently shipping, then the answer is yes.
Bob, The mcm has the same rumble filter as the PE, just the resistor numbers are different. Search this forum for "new mcm plate amp" (or for posts by me) and it should give details. good luck.
That's interesting, considering their Feb15 flyer shows them as being on CLOSEOUT (for $120), while supplies last. Unless they've sold out and have more shipments on order.
Long story short, I sold the 300-794 out of my sub to a friend. Bought the MCM (and asked for copy of schematic to modify rumble filter). Modified rumble filter, installed amp in box. Took sub to friend's house for demo, and the amp wouldn't power up with 'auto-on' or 'on' setting. His receiver...
The MCM amp does have the same boost/rumble filter that the PE model used to have (and still has with part # 300-796?). I bought mine when they first picked up this new model (they used to sell the 300-796). That was close to one year ago. I'm hoping to receive feedback from recent buyers to see...
I believe both amps are made by the same company, and the amplification section is the same. Only difference between them is the preamp section. They both have +/-'s, so pick based on your needs. I will warn you though, the one unit I got from MCM had a defective turn-on circuit. They were...
Thomas, You're obviously on top of this, but I just thought I'd add a little. IMO, your remark about this being a common problem with plate amps is a little misleading. And I think it comes from advice that was given in a mag a while back, that being the recommendation of running the...
I'm pretty sure he meant to say Birch plywood. In that case, I would not recommend HD's for sub enclosures. IME, it is low quality in terms of voids within the plys. And you'll notice only one side is 'cabinet quality' (and barely that). So you'll have to plan your construction one extra step...
