Physical Media might not be dead, but Physical Media in Retail Stores are accelerating the death

I was at Best Buy a few weeks ago to look at cameras. I have not been shopping in over a year, so it was a real shock to me. There were hardly any movies at all. There were hardly any cameras either. In fact, the whole store seemed under stocked. This was the extent of the movies. This...

RIP the Cinerama Dome, ArcLight and Pacific Cinemas

Landmark status does not always keep that from happening. The Coral Court Motel on Route 66 in St. Louis was a listed landmark but the area is now a subdivision. Owners can fight for their economic rights. Unless someone can offer them more, and they are willing to sell, protection is not...

Kino Lorber Insider (Read Guidelines Post #3)

Definitely looking forward to this. I just saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was presented as part of the Hippodrome Silent Film Festival. The festival was online this year and had some great offerings. This is one I had not even heard of before, let alone seen. It is...

Kino Lorber Insider (Read Guidelines Post #3)

I would just like to thank Kino and the staff at the Kino website. I placed my order early on March 18. I even had one item that was Out of Stock on my list. My entire order arrived on Saturday the 20th. Pretty amazing! Kino is consistently knocking it out of the park both in releases and...

I forgot to add Thank You Very Much to everyone who shared discounts and hints and the lists of what they bought! It was hard to narrow down, but all of the commentary about the new Blu-rays and all the great reviews made it a little easier.

Press Release Warner Archive Press Release: Show Boat (1951) (Blu-ray)

I think one of the things that I love about Show Boat is that there is NO definitive version. I've seen several stage productions and the movies and every last one has been different. All have had different interpretations and a different focus. The core story is what keeps brining me back. I...

    Suggestions of Classic Male Actors

Adding to this already fantastic list: Ronald Colman - especially Lost Horizon (1937) Warren William - He did bucket loads of Pre-Codes that are interesting. Boris Karloff - He did a great number of roles and quite a variety. Lew Ayres - He did some great work in the early 30s, particularly All...

Here's my update. I did not watch nearly as much as I had planned. However, I did find some great venues for watching things that I would never have the chance to see otherwise. Eventbrite has really filled up my time and has been a godsend. There are so many free virtual events of all...

***Official 21st Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge 2020***

Since being furloughed and then unemployed, I have looked for things to fill my time. I came across an online event that required registration on Eventbrite. That opened a whole new world of webinars and lectures that has been quite a lot of fun. Not all are great, but that's where I found...

Finally getting back to the challenge. I spent the whole second week of the month watching the Pordenone Silent Film Festival online. No horror movies in the mix, but a lot of great things that I would not have otherwise been able to see. Then real life intervened and now I'm back. Titles in...

I watched this for the Challenge in 2017. Tommy does excellent work. I've been working through the Thunderbean/Blue Mouse release Grotesqueries this year. Great disc as well. I love animation and have supported all the releases you mentioned. No one is doing as much for classic animation as...

    Pre-Order Psycho (1960) 60th Anniversary (4k UHD)

I can't even fathom that. I won't watch if I can't see it from the beginning. It just seems wrong to me. You wouldn't pick up a book and start on chapter 3 and then go back and read the first two chapters when you were done. I think it would be quite confusing.

    Deactivated my Facebook

I love Facebook. I think that you have to approach it in a way that gives you pleasure. It allows me to keep in touch with family without actually having to see or talk to them. I have been able to reconnect with friends who moved far away and I would have had no way of finding them. And I...
