Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Thank you, Nelson, I haven't watched Unification in a very long time for some reason, and I recall liking it quite a lot. In the queue for this afternoon.

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I watched TOS "This Side of Paradise" this afternoon - never fails to bring a tear to my eye. I always think of Leila as Mr. Spock's Edith Keeler. "For the first time in my life, I was happy."

7 Faces of Dr. Lao (1964)

Nothing to add except that this film is a family favorite (for over 50 years) and a blu-ray would be fantastic.

    What's cooking?

I did not grow up with savory pies either, unless you count the little Swanson's chicken pot pies LOL. The pie I made has rapini, hot Italian sausage, garlic, ricotta, Parmigiana Reggiano, sharp provolone cheese and hot capicola. The dough is richer than American pie dough; it has eggs, and...

    What's cooking?

Happy Pi Day! I decided to go savory with an Italian Easter Pie.

Press Release Warner Archive Press Release: Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940) (Blu-ray)

Hey Will, if you don't have it, check out Thomas Hampson's rendition of Begin the Beguine - he sings Porter a bit too operatically for my taste, however, they use the original Broadway orchestrations and the one for Beguine is particularly thrilling and soaring; the disc is worth it for the...

What's on your Daily Viewing List?

If you enjoyed Eve Arden, be sure to see Mildred Pierce if you haven't. She is fantastically "Eve Arden" in that (and it's a great film besides).

I believe RCA released the LP in England, also.

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Long thought mythical, Captain Kirk persevered and finally found the legendary Sourdough Planet. Landing parties armed with butter and serrated knives are beaming down now. My sourdough loaf this morning reminded me of the planet effects from TOS. :)

The Sting 4K UHD Coming From Universal

I'm not sure about that in the case of The Sting: the HD-DVD had instances of scratches and minus density which the blu "fixed". To me the HD looked more like film. It may have been the same transfer, but it was worked on digitally in between.

    What's cooking?

I had good luck with the Cook's Illustrated bagel recipe, fantastic in fact.

The Sting 4K UHD Coming From Universal

Mine ultimately did, too; it would skip about 45 minutes of the movie. Seamlessly I might add. But still.

I actually liked the look of this one better than the blu.

Looking for Advice on Ripping my CD Collection

This is an interesting thread. I am enjoying reading about the different methods and approaches. I started ripping my CDs in 2006. I am still not done LOL After an initial flurry of a few months, I changed my approach and now just rip a CD when I want to listen to it, or when I acquire it (if it...

My copy of Pajama Game arrived yesterday (1/25), albeit at about 8:30 pm.

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I watched The Galileo Seven last night. Most of the time, I watch the original effects, but this is one where I watch the new effects. Especially on the projector and large screen, the effect is just so cool when Spock jettisons the fuel. One of my all-time fave episodes, although I always find...

    What's cooking?

Cream of Celery Soup does not sound exciting, but I had an extra bunch of celery I knew would go bad before I could use it so I tried an America's Test Kitchen recipe and I loved it. Rich celery flavor with just a small amount of butter and cream. I pureed it in the blender for a full 2 minutes...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I agree with Josh, after all, it is show "business". That being said, there is a nice list of season 3 episodes I love and consider classic Trek. Off the top of my head and without looking at a list: The Tholian Web, The Enterprise Incident, The Cloud Minders, For the World is Hollow and I Have...

Press Release Warner Archive Press Release: Show Boat (1951) (Blu-ray)

These releases are all wonderful news but I have to wonder how George Feltenstein being laid off from Warners is going to affect product from Warner Archive. I'm trying not to allow the pessimist in me see it as a "last hurrah". I remember Mr. Feltenstein's name back to the glory days of...

Press Release Warner Archive Press Release: Show Boat (1951) (Blu-ray)

I thought the laserdisc stereo sounded great and I was really disappointed they didn't include that on the DVD. (I do not know how they achieved it - I assume they used the multi-angle recordings as they did with Meet Me in St Louis).

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

Wow, that was an accident? I had no idea. I guess I was naïve to think that they said, "This is perhaps the most classic Star Trek episode - and it's Star Trek - and we have to do right by it." "Goodnight, Sweetheart" adds so much to the scene. I bought that laserdisc but went back to a VHS I...

Scott Atwell Star Trek Discussion thread (Series and Films)

I am currently re-watching the entire Original Series (I tend to cherry pick my favorite episodes and decided I was going be disciplined and watch them all). In "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" I was startled that Sam Kirk was mentioned (at 30:20) - I had totally forgotten that. So there must...
