If that's the case, then why does the Dolby Vision banner pop up on my LG OLED panel when I play DV content from my ATV4K? I don't think you're right about this.
I assume you're referring to people who either don't have a problem with the issue or just don't care? Certainly, in those cases, it obviously doesn't matter. :)
I didn't say everyone, I said practically everyone. ;) It's not always an easy task to disable HDR/DV on most streaming devices, and quite a few people probably wouldn't know (or even possibly care) how to do it anyway.
I never quoted him in the first place. I distinctly said that I was paraphrasing. Still, since we're talking about the 4K *streaming* version of MFL, practically everyone who views it WILL be watching it either with HDR or Dolby Vision, depending on equipment, without jumping through hoops to...
In this particular case, he said (and I'm paraphrasing here) that the restoration team spent a lot of time getting the black levels and shadow detail right, and that the 4K stream has screwed that up. I'll defer to his opinion on this one.
Because they're talking about the size of the file if you download the title. 1080p is the best you can get when you download. 4K is reserved for streaming only.
AFAIK it's done during the mastering process using the digital scan data from the restoration that Mr. Harris worked on. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. :)
I'm not talking about the 2015 Blu-ray release Ron, I'm talking about the upcoming 4K streaming service release. For example, will Robert be involved in managing the application of HDR/DV on this?
