And here's Criterion's announcement of the Blu-ray box set, with a trailer.
It looks gorgeous.
Still don't understand why they're not...
The official “World of Wong Kar Wai” synopsis from Janus Films reads: “Films you’ll love for 10,000 years, the cinema of Wong Kar Wai is steeped in sensual colors, groundbreaking editing, and heart-wrenching...
The restored Court Jester was so drop-dead gorgeous on the BIG BIG screen at the TCL Chinese Theater during the 2017 TCM Film Festival. I've been hoping ever since for a Blu-ray, though I'll always have the memory of the theatrical experience in my head while watching it on the home screen.
I saw the new restoration of Kind Hearts and Coronets at the 2019 TCM Film Festival and it was gorgeous. This restoration seems to be the transfer on the UK disc... but Kino got an older transfer? What a disappointment! Is the UK disc region-free?
I've watched Hello, Frisco, Hello and Mother Wore Tights -- haven't watched Pin-Up Girl yet.
The quality is what I expect from these second-rate preservation elements. Skin tones have a weird, flat, brownish look and all the other colors look "off" or faded. Mother Wore Tights looks a bit...
I saw the new restoration of Winchester '73 at the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, and I can confirm it looks absolutely gorgeous. Sure hope we get a blu-ray soon.
Thank you for the detailed description of James Stewart's courageous service in the Army Air Corps.
I don't have 4K, just Blu-ray. Will the Blu-ray disc on this set also be a new transfer from the 4K remaster? In fact, that's a question I have about all these 4K remasters coming out with Blu-ray discs too. How many of the Blu-rays are actually new transfers?
I'd love to see this really obscure David Carradine Universal pic released on Blu-ray (I don't think it even got a DVD release): Fast Charlie...the Moonbeam Rider. Cast includes Brenda Vaccaro, L.Q. Jones, R.G. Armstrong and Noble Willingham.
TCM aired The Journey of Natty Gann last night and used that beautiful HD master you wrote about. I recorded it and although I haven't had a chance to watch the entire movie, I did take a look and what a blessed relief to see it looking so good and in (finally!) widescreen. I still don't hold...
>Many theatres of that era had those horrible 2:1 screens with one-size-fits-all projection.
They're doing a modern version of that today. At the Regal 24 in Chamblee, GA, the smaller theaters stay masked at 1:85 even if they're projecting a 2:35:1 film, so you get bars at the top and bottom...
Somehow I missed entirely that Diagnosis Murder was coming out on Blu-ray and I just found out about it. However, I can't find any reviews of the Blu-ray set. Has anyone seen it? How's the picture quality? Thanks!
Hi, I don't have any additional information re The Court Jester -- only the notes printed in the TCMFF program guide. Here is the link online: http://filmfestival.tcm.com/programs/films/the-court-jester-2/
Ileana Douglas held a delightful and very funny interview with Fred Willard before the...
I couldn't find these on Amazon, so Oldies.com gets the order (Sentimental Journey, Sitting Pretty and Coney Island). Total blind buy. I don't have much confidence in the Fox Archives program, but we shall see.
Brother Theodore, The Monroes release from Shout!Factory is a Walmart exclusive, so to get a copy, you'll either have to go to a Walmart or order from their webpage (I did the latter). While I'm delighted to have this series on disc, I have to report that the picture quality is very poor. The...
I also now have the SWAYR blu-ray and it's absolutely every bit as gorgeous as others have said. So happy I also got to see it in the theater at TCMFF! I wish they'd have one of those nationwide screenings usually done through Fathom Events.
