IMO, the worst looking DVD I own is Star Wars Episode II

I take it you don't own Episode 1: The Phantom Menace then... If you want to talk ruined picture quality then this is the place to go for your hideous edge enhancement. Clones looks gorgeous in comparison.

Confirmed - UK price drop on the XBox

We've lost the free JSRF/SegaGT, but as of today (or maybe tomorrow, I'm slightly confused on that) the XBox is down from £159 to £129 - MCV news here

Will we ever see 16:9 pan & scan?

I saw that Watchdog too (oddly enough). The look of exasperation on the FOX UK exec as they were barracked for daring to release the 'widescreen' VHS in anything other than the shape of a 'widescreen' TV was just heartbreaking. This is now happening a fair bit in the UK, with discs like...

    Frighteners - shabby new cover

Oh. My. Lordy. That new Dante's Peak cover is just shocking; I'm really glad I've still got my original SE as I love the film.

The Italian Job remake trailer gives away THE WHOLE MOVIE!!

Thanks to whoever put the spoiler tags on my spoiler. I should have realised that because we've established in the title that the whole movie was given away in the trailer, some readers here may not have seen this trailer. oops...

The Italian Job remake trailer gives away THE WHOLE MOVIE!!

I was particularly impressed by the way that they took a classic British film set in Turin, and turned it into an American one set in Los Angeles. Classy ;) Does Donald Sutherland really need that money, being so obviously second-choice to a Michael Caine who already got burned on the...

Secret Rare game ... a remake of an 8-bit classic?

While Rare have always left me slightly confused as to why they get so worshipped (with the glaring exception of Goldeneye, obviously), Ultimate Play The Game's back catalogue remains untarnished. A new Atic Atac would be brilliant if the multiple paths for the different characters, complex...

    My new Controller.....

Sorry Dave, I meant the X-Arcade, I should have been specific. Its a matter of taste, like I say, but the really stiff teardrop-style sticks they use aren't to my taste; I prefer the loose Hori-style (though I recognise that a clever person can change them, that slightly defeats the point)...

    Flaming Lips LIVE

They were support the last time I saw Mercury Rev, and I didn't even realise until I got there. Boy, was I pleased. Amazing gig.

    My new Controller.....

eurgh. Sorry, horses for courses and all that, but the sticks are far too stiff for me. Give me the DC Arcade Stick any day, or one of Hori's models.

Help me decide on how to spend $50 at Borders

A couple of really good books I've had recently, that I can recommend: The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear - Walter Moers Frankly insane "childrens" book, though its more a straight comedy that happens to involve a Blue Bear that doesn't include anything too likely to be unsuitable for kids...

new GTA a hoax or real

Its one of those great April spoofs that work because you want it to be real. Crossing GTA with the coolness of Frank Miller's awesome Sin City would be stunning, and make the likes of XIII and NPR Quake look amateurish if done properly.

    Radiohead 'Hail To The Thief'

One thing is for sure, you won't be able to guarantee you've got the finished version of the album unless you've seen it come off the CD with your own eyes now - clever...

THE RECRUIT to be a MAR (Modified Aspect Ratio) release only.

If Donaldson wants the disc to be 1.78:1 then thats his choice. Its my choice not to buy it if thats the case, though. I buy films to watch them like they are in the cinema, even if the director thinks they are "improved" by changing them for home release. Thats why I bought the theatrical...

Anyone gonna pickup Burnout2 for XBox or GC?

I might get the Cube release at some point, but when I keep ignoring the PS2 one at £20 because I've got too many things to complete first forking over double that for the luxury of a few extra crash rounds and the comfort of my Wavebird it may well not happen...

    Hybrid DVD-A dead!

You know, I could have sworn that Blair Witch 2 shipped in the US as a dual-sided disc with the film on one side and the soundtrack in Redbook on the other. If that was allowed, why wouldn't replacing the VOB data on the DVD side with DVDA data? Or was it that the disc was indeed too thick...

New Aphex Twin:26 Mixes For Cash

Blue Lines was the first one, so it went Blue Lines Protection No Protection (its a dub remix thing) Mezzanine Singles box (11 cds or 12"s of all the singles to that point) 100th Window As for 26 Mixes, its just nice having them all together on two discs that, should the car get...

    Matrix Reloaded soundtrack

Having already had Furious Angels on vinyl for ages (its great in a very Clubbed To Death but better way), its just the second CD for me. I see they are wearing their Gibson steals on their sleeve again, then.

Soul Calibur II Opinions *IMPORTS NOT COPIES*

I would have thought so, yes - its got to be able to display at 480i for normal TV owners, and so 480p should be fine.

Is Music Being Crowded Out By Movies?

Since we're currently at the point where its not unusual for me to find the score of a film more expensive than the DVD of the film itself (and this is even the case where DVDs have the score on the disc), its hardly surprising really that many think CDs are overpriced.

    Radiohead 'Hail To The Thief'

The only question really is how many formats I'll be needing to buy this on. I'm kind of hoping there isn't an SACD - despite what I said in the other thread I've a distinct feeling that would mean I'd shell out for a player...

Which albums and players will push you into high rez?

Philip, all I think is being meant by the "advantages" of a single digital cable is that it generally costs around 1/6th of the price of analogue cables, or even more once you get into the question of an analogue signal being more subsceptible to cable quality than a digital one. That and the...

PS2 Price Drop? Someone just told me May 10th, 2003 - can anyone confirm this?

Well, some places here are already shaving £30 off the PS2 price (to £149) in sales, so I wouldn't be shocked by this in the UK. Microsoft are probably going to have to do something to their price if the much spread rumours of a new slimmer version are true - persuading people to get the old...

Soul Calibur II Opinions *IMPORTS NOT COPIES*

Trust me Jesse, the DC arcade stick is worth every penny. Its the best stick I've ever used outside a real arcade; much better than the PS2 ones that are generally available here in the UK.

Help me decide on how to spend $50 at Borders

You need help getting up to $50 in Borders? Last time I went in I needed help cutting back down to under £100! The place is like a candy store aimed right at me.

    Full List of Amplitude Tracks

Even better, someone needs to do a non-rock version. Right now its full of guitars, and I'll be leaving it on the shelf - I never could get into the rock tracks on Frequency.

Soul Calibur II Opinions *IMPORTS NOT COPIES*

Its the GC for me, just as soon as I work out how to get my DC stick working with it. I've got Freeloader on the way for Animal Crossing already, so if I get really impatient (which I'm not right now; since the stick arrived earlier this month I'm getting right back into the games I already...

Which albums and players will push you into high rez?

But Lee, unless you're going to vinyl, the digital jitter issue is going to be there, isn't it? Or is digital jitter really that much worse if you leave the decoding until the preamp stage?

They don't mak trailers like they use to !

Other than the ones already mentioned (though watching the Panic Room teaser again nearly persuaded me to stop waiting for the SE and just buy the Superbit, and the French Femme Fatale one is almost worth buying the disc for) I'd mention Scooby Doo teaser - I nearly shouted obscenities at the...
