Yeah, I'll follow your lead and just record for Eddie's comments. I first saw it on Noir Alley and then have the Criterion release which I've watched several times. I actually need to watch last week's film on the YouTube TV DVR since I had no access to it until my full internet signal was...
I had never seen it before, and I enjoyed it very much. Eddie was right about not knowing who was going to live or die, and it was a very tight, compact story told straightforwardly and well. Loved the way the car in the blast was pictured.
As usual, I enjoyed the backstory of Paul Kelly, but...
I did watch this last night. I had a hard time getting into it and even when I did, I didn't care much about the characters or what was happening. The actors are fine, but I just didn't find it very compelling.
I love the actors in the cast, so naturally I'll be watching. I don't think I've ever seen it before. I'll be reviewing tomorrow, so the viewing may not be until Monday.
I saw The Great Man a long time ago, on some TV channel. I would have assumed it was TCM but maybe not. Anyway, like you, I knew it didn't quite have the punch of A Face in the Crowd, but it was very good.
It's only been a month, but it seems longer since Noir Alley was on my radar. Like Crawdaddy, I have seen Out of the Past so many times, and I have to be in the mood to watch it again. I'll record to catch Eddie's remarks, but I doubt I'll revisit it tomorrow. Seems like either this or Double...
Well, I have now seen The Housemaid. Shades of The Woman in the Window except much darker and more psychologically unhinged! For most of the film, I wanted to take a stick to the husband being so weak and utterly manipulated by every person in the story. Maybe it's a cultural thing I just don't...
I'm reviewing today, but since there will be no new installment of Noir Alley this weekend, I'll likely get back to The Housemaid at lunchtime tomorrow.
I started it on Sunday but got taken away within fifteen minutes for something else going on and haven't returned to it. Today is going to be equally busy, so I'm not sure when I'll get back to it.
I'll be watching The Housemaid tomorrow for the first time. As for the repeaters, I understand your conundrum as you're so much more well versed on noir than most, but other than Out of the Past, which I've seen numerous times and have on Blu-ray, the other titles don't ring bells though I've...
I did enjoy seeing Red Light again. I'm probably not as high on it as Eddie is, but it's certainly entertaining despite Raft's wooden (to put it mildly) performance. Wonderful supporting cast, and I had to chuckle seeing several of those castmates knowing how many of them would guest star on...
I must have watched Red Lights when it was broadcast before, but I have no memory of it. Not a big fan of George Raft, but I'll certainly give this a watch to see what I remember (if anything).
I agree with you. It's a very weak screenplay with Agar a too helpless pawn for the machinations of the Party. I don't understand Ryan's character not confiding in his wife. I know husband-wife dynamics were different back then, not often seen as equals (and the women are ALL bossed around like...
I agree. Thoroughly enjoyable. You know the moment he writes down that name and phone number on the matchbook despite being warned not to, it's going to come back to bring Talman down. Despite the brief run time, the movie didn't seem rushed, abbreviated, or in any way incomplete. Pretty amazing...
Yep, I'll rewatch Armored Car Robbery again, too, since I likewise haven't seen it since it last aired on TCM. Despite the generic title, I remember liking it a lot.
I watched No Questions Asked today, and I had seen it before, but it was long enough ago that some twists had been forgotten. Loved seeing so much of the MGM backlot used for city street scenes, and I enjoyed the cast. WIlliam Reynolds was particularly young. Barry Sullivan is a fine actor but...
I think I've seen it (No Questions Asked), but I wouldn't swear to it. Anyway, I'll be watching. It should be on the TCM app, but I always DVR just to be on the safe side.
This woman brought a lot of pain and unhappiness to a succession of men and not only shows no remorse about her lying and kleptomania but will no doubt live out her days free from real punishment even if institutionalized. That just doesn't sit well with me.
I didn't know that either and was shocked he wouldn't have been interested in it. Watching it this afternoon, its greatness was even more pronounced in my mind. The TCM presentation was nicely sharp with excellent grayscale. Ready for a BD release we're likely never to get.
Certainly enjoyed If I Should Die Before I Wake this afternoon. Yes, there are definite similarities to The Window without being a carbon copy of its story, and I really found it quite wonderful. Strange that there was no outro for Eddie either on my DVR recording or on the TCM app.
