I completely agree with you. In fact, I cancelled my "Hollywood Extras" add-on to Sling last month so no longer get TCM. I was finding I was only watching it for Noir Alley and I just stopped watching it due to the lack of new films and the insights weren't enough for me to be engaged.
I miss...
I've owned the DVD of Born to Kill from the Film Noir Classic Collection Volume Two since 2005, but I never listened to Eddie's commentary on it. I need to rectify that soon.
We can all play the "what if" game, but your thinking is that she would still have had an opportunity to direct in Hollywood. There are always restrictions, even now.
Your question wasn't directed to me, but I'm bummed that my Sling.tv DVR didn't record it either.
I'm glad to have the Imprint release, but I wanted to watch Eddie's intro/outro.
Oh, and I'm glad Lupino wasn't born 50 years later. Think of all the films she wouldn't be in or had directed. Think...
That's the way I read the Special Features list by Indicator as well:
Two presentations of the film: The Strange One, with the original US title sequence; and End as a Man, with the rarely seen UK titles
I received my Imprint bundle order yesterday, and the first thing I unwrapped and put into my player last night was The Straight Story. First time viewing, and I agree with everything you wrote above, Crawdaddy, especially the bar scene, which really got to me.
I thought that Imprint's release...
I'm still waiting for delivery on the Imprint release of The Straight Story. All this discussion around it is whetting my appetite. I loved Farnsworth's portrayal of Matthew in Anne of Green Gables.
You sold me on A Woman's Vengeance. Never heard of it prior to this discussion. Now I am wondering if I should wait on the chance Kino releases it on blu or buy the DVD. Hmmm... decisions, decisions.
Look @Robert Crawford, do you really expect people to read your posts?
Next think you’ll want us all to know about and follow your thread on preorders (which for the record is extremely helpful and I thank you for doing it).
Joseph Kearns was a such great actor who left us too soon. His distinctive voice is on so many radio shows, such as The Whistler, Suspense, and who can ever forget him as Ed the vault guard on the Jack Benny Show?
He'll always be remembered as the Doorknob in Alice in Wonderland and of course...
Very true about that, as I find The Naked Spur to be one of my favorite Mann/Stewart westerns, high above Night Passage. I enjoy each of the characters motives, how no one is 100% good or evil, and the tension that Anthony Mann builds throughout the film.
I wish this was available in a restored...
I was disappointed when I originally watched Open Range when it first came out. I saw it again recently and liked it much better, and cannot recall what it was that I didn't like about it back in "aught three".
I would rate The Shootist, Monte Walsh, The Long Riders and Tombstone above it, if...
Crawdaddy, your post got me wanting to watch those Sullivan boys this weekend. I haven't watched my 1999 ROAN copy in quite a number of years, and this weekend is a perfect opportunity to correct that.
I never caught that they changed the title of the movie, thanks for posting the original...
What a great shout-out to Pat McCormick, Dialing for Dollars, and KTVU. I also was "sick" a day or two so I could stay home from school to watch a particular movie.
The best thing in this movie is the tracking shot at the beginning. I've always been impressed by how well it's done.
Not so well done is George Raft in this. They needed someone to bring more life to that character.
I hopefully DVRd this episode so I can at least watch that begining again, and...
I have no qualms about pre-ordering Arrow Blu-rays and make sure I get a first pressing with the collectible booklets, but both Kino and Twilight Time have conditioned me to wait for their inevitable sale at 50% off or more, so I rarely pre-order their titles.
I think you will enjoy this one. I have the Criterion DVD and really enjoyed it the first time I watched it. I wonder if I should hold out for a Criterion blu or pick up the UK disc. Decisions, decisions.
Well that is disappointing to hear. I haven't listened to that particular commentary, but I usually enjoy and learn from them. Do you think the ones he does with James Ursini are better than than his solo commentaries?
