I was going to guess Una too! - but only because of the eyes. Something about them. But she died in 1959.

Indeed the video quality of this disc is excellent. Big improvement over previous versions. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the heads up on the Obsession disc. It is a fine film. It's always on the Criterion Channel - decent scan as far as detail. Fair HD presentation, but not from great elements, with no clean up, stabilisation, etc. I ordered the disc. Indeed The Killers is top notch. There's a 2025...

Yes. The Criterion Channel transfer is not good, but it was perfectly watchable even in projection (unlike the RKO films), which leads me to believe the elements are probably in decent enough shape. The existing scan may even be usable with digital cleanup, although a new scan would be better...

I watched Edward Dmytryk’s 1949 Obsession aka The Hidden Room. His first British film in exile. Very stylish, enjoyable murder mystery. Robert Newton, Naunton Wayne. Criterion Channel

I’ve also had several discs from those Film Noir and Pre-code collections go bad. Over the years, I’ve discovered at least 20 discs which have gone bad; and if they’re out of print, I’m out of luck. I learned long ago that for any title I want to keep - rip it while you still can.

Thanks Robert. I agree that the new "Man" isn't up to WA Blu-ray standards, but it's far better than the OOP DVD. The same is true for those unnamed films. As these have all been up on HBO max for years, there are obviously no imminent WA Blu's. These are important films, long unavailable...

Since launch a couple of years ago, HBO max has been streaming a very nice new transfer of Man Who Came to Dinner - a big improvement over the DVD, which had been, until max, the only home video version available. I wish they would release this much improved version, either on disc, or at least...

Thank you all for directing our attention to this film. Your opinions are very much appreciated. But please, which film are you talking about? A careful re-reading of the past seven posts, which are about watching three different films, points to El Vampire Negro, but each post about this...

Thanks Robert. Twilight Time is OOP. I did search both the Apple TV app and the iTunes store and neither show the film. You prompted me to google search “Man Hunt 1941 iTunes” which brings the link up immediately. When will I ever learn? Apple searches are so bad. It’s as if the don’t want...

I watched Fritz Lang’s 1941 Man Hunt before it leaves Criterion Channel. Highly recommended. I don’t think the film is available anywhere else.Very respectable transfer. There is a UK Blu-ray. I suspect this transfer is from that

I’m with Robert on this one. Great style and atmosphere. For intricate Swiss watch plot logic we would have to wait a few decades. Thanks for the tip on the Arrow Blu. I didn’t know it was available.
