Take this with a grain of salt...
Someone has contacted and informed me that retailer listing access is showing disc releases (including 3D Blu-ray) for the end of June.
All this can change

Nope, you didn't.
Looks like they are going to run with a digital release for now and then release the 4k/3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray at some future point this year.
Josh,
With all the facts you have laid out here, it's the very first one that got my attention.
It's absolutely true that the moment you proclaim that the 3D format is dead, you get accused of being a hater.
That's already been proven by comments made in this thread already.
We are huge...
I think that is very possible. And I only say that because the master is done.
I also like the prospect that perhaps it would be licensed to a boutique label if Universal doesn't want to release it itself.
Well, listen. You asked me a direct question.
I gave you an honest, truthful answer.
Yes, small labels continue to release 3D films but they are mostly funded by people like you which tells me they probably aren't selling in huge volume but still enough money coming in to keep them trickling...
These are being released through Independent, boutique labels.
The major studios aren't interested in the format anymore as far as home video is concerned.
And sometimes, the only way some of these releases can be funded is through Kickstarter campaigns.
So, while there is certainly interest...
No. I would have said something if I did.
The point I was making is that I don't personally think Universal is going to release it under the current climate. Of course, there is room for error in that opinion, but I think if the studio was interested, it would have been announced already...
Noel,
That comment was completely unnecessary. In fact, it looks like one made out of desperation to win an argument.
Let's be very clear on something. The 3D format for the home, as far as the major studios are concerned, is dead.
The only reason we will get Avatar in 3D is the sheer...
Dick, I'd rather not get into this conversation again.
It's only March. There has been a lot of reshuffling going on at Disney as of late from what I am being told.
Everyone gets pissed off when releases don't happen according to a rumored timeline.
Why don't we just wait things out for the...
There are a variety of reasons
First, I generally don't like going to the movie theater. It's the reason why I built my own. That feeling became even stronger after Covid. Not a fan of being in a small space with a lot of people.
The second reason was the running time. Just being stuck in...
Josh, thanks for posting this.
Not coming down on anyone -- this is based on feedback I see everywhere -- but for some people, it's hard for them to understand why there will no resurgence in the current 3D format.
We live in a bubble here. When on a daily basis we just have each other to...
(laugh) To go off topic here, why is your Panasonic 4k player considered crap?
I would buy it digital as well, but I want to see it in 3D first and I refuse to see it theatrically.
Correct...
My concern is the press release itself. This is the first time I have seen a studio release a press release for a major title like this that indicates a digital-only release without any indication of physical.
I may be overthinking things -- and certainly offering a worst-possible outcome scenario ...
This is a very odd release strategy, but I understand Disney hopes to take advantage of digital sales before physical.
However, I hope Disney+ doesn't become the next exclusive stop for this release...
So, it appears before we are blessed with a physical media release of this film -- let alone a 3D one -- the studio is going to milk it on digital exclusively for as long as it can
