Jason, if you go to avsforum.com there are owner's threads for the new JVC's and Samsung's in the RPTV forum. They're both, like, 18+ pages long, but you'll get a lot of feedback from owners.
I've narrowed down my choices to one of the 70" JVC D-ILA sets, or the Samsung HL-S7178W. I've seen the Samsung at Best Buy and Tweeter, and I think it looks really good. I just haven't been able to find one of the JVC's locally to check out.
frogpond, Tweeter had a 1080p HD-DVD demo playing on the Mitsubishi, and also a Blu-ray demo on their Samsung 71" DLP. The HD-DVD was spectacular. I'd always heard people talk about HD looking "so real you could reach through the screen and touch it," but had never seen an HD source that...
Viewing distance is something I'm still trying to decide on. I'm going to have two rows of seating, but will usually be sitting in the first one. I was planning on about 11 feet to the front of the couch. I went last night to Tweeter, however, and watched a 1080p demo on their top of the line...
I've considered projectors, but I really want 1080p, and I don't want to turn down the lights to watch it. Also, my basement isn't that big, and I really don't need to go bigger than about 70".
So, I was out to dinner with the wife last night, and we stopped into Best Buy to kill a few minutes before we headed out to the movies. This Best Buy store (Orland Park, IL) just added a Magnolia HT section, so we went over to check it out, as we're in the market for our first HD set for our...
Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. One more question: How much TV do you watch on your projector? I'm planning on getting DirecTV HD for the HT, and we watch a LOT of television programming. This room will be our main hangout in the house, which is why I was thinking of having a TV as well as...
It's a basement, so I can totally darken the room, but I just wonder whether I'll want to watch TV/movies all the time in a dark room. I've seen a few HD projectors in action at Best Buy/Tweeter, but they haven't blown me away like I'd expected. I don't think I need a HUGE screen...
I'm in the process of getting quotes on having my basement finished, and I'm trying to decide exactly what kind of display I want for my HT. Originally, I was just going to get a fixed screen and a projector, but after thinking about it for awhile, I'm starting to have second thoughts. My...
I just bought a sweet new Panasonic GS-150 digital video camera from Crutchfield, who beat the pants off of Best Buy, including the 5-year warranty. Anyway, they sent me a code for $20 off a $200 order using this code: p1vjc-9hh1a-3i8gi kev
Yeah, Yeah - Brian Posehn...I couldn't think of his name. I just browsed the Anthrax message boards, and apparently Scott is friends with Bo somehow. Personally, I would have preferred Ryan talking to Scott instead of Hall & Oates. :)
Hey, did anybody notice Scott Ian from Anthrax in the crowd when they showed Bo's friends & family? I had to replay the Tivo several times to make sure, and I still couldn't get a good look. Sitting beside him was a guy I recognized from some movies, I think -- nerdy guy w/glasses, I think he's...
It's great so far. I've tried DVD+RW's, +R's, and -R's, and all have burned fine. The quality looks really good off my DirecTivo. The menus are really slick on this machine, but then, my other DVD player is a 1998 Pioneer 414. It just seems like a pretty nice machine, overall so far.
Anybody try one of these out yet? I got one at Best Buy for $360, after price matching CC, and adding on the 10% preferred customer discount. I thought about getting the GX7 model for $299, but I liked that the new model burns any type of disc, and figured the next generation model might have...
Actually, my room at home isn't really a "proper viewing environment," so if it looks better in the store, it'll probably be better for my family room, which has quite a few windows. At least, during the daytime, anyway. Eventually, I'll finish my basement, and have a more proper HT room, but...
Could somebody educate me, or point me towards a good FAQ comparing LCD performance vs. CRT's? I'm just curious -- I was at Best Buy today browsing through the HDTV section, and really liked the look of the rear projection LCD sets. They seemed to look the best from wide viewing angles, which...
I see that the Philips DVDR615 is out. Anybody try it out yet? I've only seen one review on the internet so far, on Amazon, which was negative. I toyed with buying a DVDR75, because they're about $279 right now, but I want to see what their new boxes do.
As many have mentioned here before, YMMV, depending on Best Buy employee's mood, time of month, phase of moon, alignment of planets, suns, moons & stars, weather conditions, disgruntleness of employee, cost of gasoline, and millions of other factors. :D
I apologize for starting the thread & bringing up such painful Best Buy memories for you guys. :) Not to rub it in (OK, maybe a little), but I did finally get my coupon in the mail.
IIRC, Alias had a big episode right AFTER the Superbowl in Season 2, wasn't it? (The skanky lingerie-on-the-airplane episode. :D) I would expect them to do something similar in order to continue uninterrupted.
