I think some power conditioners do offer sonic improvements. It is however dependent upon how clean the power is that you are currently getting. I think surge protection is much more important. As for sound improvements, I think you get subtle improvements but at a significant cost for the...
I prefer the woven screens. I am using screen materials from SeymourAv. Solid screens are best for picture quality. The woven screens are a reasonable trade off. They give a very good picture and allow some flexibility with speaker placement.
Jon's stuff works well. I have built all of them. Still I prefer the rigid fiberglass OC703 panels and use pipe insulation for bass traps. I find the OC703 less bulky than Jon's designs. Also using the pipe insulation, I have been able to make a bass traps that I feel is clearly superior to...
Believe it or not the ceiling looks really good painted black. I used Bone Black, I believe a Ralph Lauren color. to paint mine in a flat finish. Some blacks are "blacker" than others. I thought my wife was going to hate it and warned her. She let me do it. Surprise, it turned out great and is...
I have both Green Glue and Acoustiblok in my room walls. The Green Glue works as advertised. QuiteRock is very expensive, multiples of the same performance wall contructed with Green Glue. I believe the wall with the highest ever tested STC is one constructed with Green Glue.
I'm happy to see your insurance company is covering you. What I want to know is what kind of water filer it was and how it broke so that I can avoid the same kind of problem?
I can't help you with ideal dimensions for acoustics. For your size screen though you will need a bright projector. Most DLPs will likely not do it. What is your budget? I've seen Sony's new Qualia(SXRD like LCOS) pushing screens that large but is over 20k. Something like Sanyo's PLV70, an LCD...
I have the audio rack. It's a bargain for a wood stand. Very nice. I have pictures of it if you'd like. Send me a message with your e-mail and I'll send you some pics. You really can't go wrong with that stand.
If both subs are exactly the same age and have the exact same usage, it is possible for the both to fail around the same time. You may have not notice the hum untill it was being produced by both subs. I've owned certain brands of electronics where I and other seem to experience the same...
You can't have both crossovers on at the same time. Even with the crossover set at 140 in the sub, you will still get a hole in the frequency response if you use both filters. Use one or the other. I find that the sub needs to be set as much as 10db higher than the other speakers for movies, and...
Does the room have windows? They are leaking the most sound. Try www.asi-stop.com for some noise blocking curtains. The fact that the house has a crawl space is also a factor. Stopping bass is not going to be easy. I'd also tack some mass loaded vinly, try www.silentsource.com or some very heavy...
I used a Ralph Laren Polo paint called Kilm Red. It's a deep red/burgundy. My wife and mother-in-law picked it out. My ceilings are a dark charcoal gray, Behr Evening Hush. Everyone loves the deep rich color of the Kilm Red which is also a dark color. The room is very dark and reflects almost no...
Use curtains along the sliding glass doors to stop reflections. That's the first thing you should do. Use some panels for the sidewall that you can place them on. Even panels on only one wall will help. How about the front of the room? Many people place absorption panels there and diffusion...
Mike, I spent a year running around the country. My wife was sick of me:D! I listened to everything on Stereophile's class A list and then some. I've heard about everything in the 7 to 10k price point. I reached the same conclusion that there were a few brands that offered better...
Oh, I should note that when I say electostat highs I mean broad room filing highs that seem to just come from the front of the room. The LS-360 is not a bright speaker and the highs are kind of mellow compared to many speakers but I think they are closer to what live music sound like.
I'd recommend the Maggies as well. I faced the exact same decision. I'd narrowed my search down to B&W N802 and the Martin Logans. Then I read a review of the Mcintosh LS-360 in The Perfect Vision and while taking a holiday trip was able to find a dealer that had both the N802 and the LS-360 on...
What they are doing is selling the old lower line under the Aragon name. I've owned both of the amps you have and enjoyed them. Don't be fooled into buying an Acurus amp which I believe the amp that you are considering really is.
Try www.silentsource.com They have it for half of what Acoustiblok charges and it's the exact same stuff. Acoustiblok though is very fast with shipment and will provide support during the installation. I purchased most of my mass-loaded vinyl which is what the stuff is, from silent source but...
I'd use Owens-Corning 703 for the panels. Use the 1 inch thickness. You will not find it at Home Depot or Lowes. Look in the yellow pages under Insulation and you'll find some dealers that will sell it to you. 1 inch wood is really only 3/4 of an inch wide. If you use the 1 inch panels, you'll...
Check with www.silentsource.com they have some products specifically desinged for this. I have the mass loaded vinyl which is what acoutiblok is, in my ceiling and walls. When I'm in my theater, my wife hears nothing and the bedroom is directly above my theater.
I too gave up trying to see the photos. It was easier to find picture of the guys that designed the theater than the theater itself. Incredible site design though. Wish it were more focused on the theater though. Sorry to be negative.
Yes, reflections off my current electric screen. My other option is to go with a perforated electric screen. Matrix tommorrow first show, I'll be there! Then, I'll be jumping around like a little kid throwing punches and kicks. Next, I'll be forced to drink a few beers to calm me down!
