Where do you guys get your information from? Waterfront is a Roland Reed production, like My Little Margie, which is now treated as PD. What I call an orphan show, where the copyrights may have been renewed, but there is no one alive to claim ownership.
I watched a few Kodiaks at UCLA and its not that bad. True, Walker was a wooden actor, but its just another in the long line of Highway Patrol clones, except with better scenery. The Alaskans is unintentionally funny, with actors sweating in their heavy coats in warm Southern California. Likely...
Studio One is CBS owned. Matinee Theatre is NBC/Universal. Decades ran a ton of Studio Ones that I recorded and Matinee Theatre surviving episodes are syndicated in the Universal Bob Hope Chrysler Theatre syndication package.
I believe there's 78 shows. Hadn't heard about the 35mm prints existing but UCLA does have a full run on 16mm.
Best line I heard about the show was when Ethel Waters was getting criticized for playing a domestic, she answered the critics by saying she could either make $500 a week for playing...
I watched a couple of episodes last night on the Alpha DVD. Interesting show. The Erle Stanley Gardner archives are at University of Texas. Maybe they have a set of prints. If not, I've no idea where the elements might have wound up. There was someone on ebay years ago who had a set of them on...
Republic (which was bought by Wordvision which was bought by Spelling which was bought by Paramount) donated the elements. The show itself is public domain.
CBS made sure they renewed the copyrights on Amos and Andy and will never let it out of their vaults. Just not going to happen, unfortunately. Very funny show. Thankfully, through 16mm prints that wound up out in the collectors world over the years, all but 4 episodes circulate. It was 6 that...
Except neither is PD. They were sold to Metromedia which got bought out by Fox, who didn't have a clue about the shows they inherited in the deal. Now Disney owns them so you can pretty much forget about it unfortunately.
Tom Ewell is Four Star so now owned by Fox. Forget shows owned by the majors. That includes others I see mentioned, like Karen, Bachelor Father, etc. Stick to suggesting things like Window on Main Street, Dear Phoebe, Betty Hutton Show and others not owned by the studios.
Actually when Republic's rights to the show expired, Hal Roach Productions was long out of business so they turned over all of the 16s, 35s and negatives to UCLA Archive. Not the easiest place to deal with but they have worked with companies on shows such as Mr. Peepers.
