Watched 10 minutes of the second episode but have now given up, having watched it since the 1960s. I don't think Jodie and Chris Chibnell will trouble the show for long. Nothing wrong with a female Doctor - Michelle Gomez would be perfect.
I don't like the new format where an episode runs for 45 minutes to an hour and everything is wrapped up in time for tea. The show was much better when a story line was played out over 4 to 6 episodes with a weekly cliffhanger. The first episode was rather pedestrian and frankly low budget.
I liked Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who but not the scripts. There has been too much philosophising and not enough action, the stories are too talky. A new female doctor and writers will hopefully re-energise the show.
I thought Peter Capaldi was good as DW and reminded me of the greatest Who's (Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker) if at times the writing let him down.
Hayley Atwell for me.
Just watched episode 3, another tedious instalment. I do feel that the Doc needs resting, either that or bring back Russell. There's too much talking and not enough suspense. I think this is due to the format not having any 'cliff-hangers'. Or perhaps it is because none of them are Tom Baker!
I have also just watched the Robin Hood episode and it is really an old story re-heated. I like Peter Capaldi but he can only work with what he is given. Perhaps it is time the show had a breather.
I have now caught up on the first two episodes and think that Peter Capaldi will be good as Doctor Who. Not too sure about the story lines. For me it hasn't been as good since Russell T Davies left the show.
Absolutely no offence taken. I also didn't like some of the other Doctors. The ones I grew up with and preferred were Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee but to watch their shows now I find them to be rather slow. Of the new crop I like David Tennant the best but still find the new format a bit rushed...
As someone who has been watching this show since the 1960's I am pleased that Matt Smith has departed - too much 'gurning' masquerading as acting.
It will be interesting to see how Peter Capaldi turns out. My choice would have been Stephen Mangan who was wonderful as Dirk Gently.
