Since B&N discontinued the member discount on Criterion, I dropped my membership and really only go in now for items such as digipacks and box sets that I want to hand pick, to avoid receiving battered copies in the mail. This is a nit-picky thing to ask, but is there a list anywhere of the type...
Found my B&N media department unattended today, too, so I'm sad to surmise that it must be a chain-wide reduction in employees. They'd taken down the security equipment in this store, though, so no alarms were set off carrying your goods to the front cash registers. And paying up there, man...
The northern NJ stores never accepted them on Criterion sales. I think some other stores in and close to NYC don't, either.
Like Mike's, though, "my" stores welcome them.
Just a heads up --
In the stores I've bought at over the past few years, the employees have not only never disallowed the use of coupons during the Criterion sales, most of them have bent over backwards to make sure the coupons all get accepted, entering them manually if necessary.
Today I...
When I picked the Tati up with a few other Criterions the other day, my cashier split it into two orders to get all the coupons to work (which is fine with me, thankyouverymuch). But when she applied the $8/$40 coupon, it took some off each item instead of taking the $8 off just the one big...
I hear ya, Moe. I was prepared to joke with the (regular) salesperson about getting the net price down so low that they'd end up owing ME. Best to be grateful for what we've got, without finding ways to darken their doorsteps.
I will personally take every advantage of still having a great brick-and-mortar chain AND its great membership deal, as long as it's possible to do so. I ignored it for years, myself, but finally joined the party once I found I'd become a pretty serious movie collector a few years back. Until...
My balls told me the same thing, but when she'd successfully rung up the 40%, I asked if by any chance I could apply "my other coupon" -- which I'd just determined would be the $8/40.
If only! :)
Sorry, that wasn't clear. I printed it from the link on the usual coupon page.
I was only buying the one item this time, so my clerk couldn't or wouldn't allow a second coupon. But I got the Zatoichi for $60.74. And you're saying someone beat my deal? This must not stand! :)
EDIT: I...
Moe: 21 Criterion LDs averaging $3 apiece? Even in this day and age, that's pretty astounding. eBay?
I'm only keeping the LDs most special to me -- the ones not carried over (yet?) to DVD/BLU, those with unique commentaries or some such, that kind of thing. Maybe I've got others you can...
Thanks, gents.
It looks like I'll only be on the Upper West Side this visit, so, with the Lincoln Center store gone, I'll have to try those others another time.
This would have been a silly question back in the day (like, last year?) but where in NYC are the remaining full-service (with media department) Barnes & Noble stores?
I'll be in the city tomorrow and just wondered if it's worth wending my way to one.
Today I was just catching up on a few of the latest BDs (The Uninvited, I Married a Witch, Eyes Without a Face), a few Eclipse sets, and a couple of older DVDs. This store didn't have everything I wanted, but next time I'll make my circuit of two of three stores and have a great day doing it...
Been busy, but finally got out today. I paid $144 (before sales tax) on $365 worth of Criterions, stacking five coupons*, and I might have left a couple of bucks on the table because one coupon may not have worked, even though the sales clerk said they all went through okay. I'll try to figure...
That pretty much describes my situation. I've got just about everything that I (presently) know I want. Of course, as I learn more about more films, they get added to the list, and on and on it goes. But with some 400 Criterion titles in my collection (a few of those are still laserdisc), I'm...
This sale was HUGE for me (don't even ask) and I took every advantage I knew how to take. If they had cracked down on the use of coupons at my stores, a few of my purchasing decisions might have been different ..... but not necessarily.
This sales is the most wonderful boon to collecting some...
Same here. My behavior has been fiscally outrageous, and it'll almost be a relief to sit back for a few months. (Just till November...)
Anyway, 20% coupon in the email this morning, and a few days ago I received two 20% coupon cards in the snail mail. Add to that the "usual" 5/50 and 8/40...
