The original season 1 DVD was released by 20th. The rights reverted to CBS/Paramount starting with the season 2 DVD set. (Re-releases of the season 1 set came from CBS/Paramount also.)
I can't say for sure, but maybe that 20th logo is still showing from that original season 1 DVD run.
Just...
"Previously ... on The Colby's ..."
Enjoying the recaps at the beginning of the episodes. Didn't Dynasty have these too during its original run?
They're nowhere to be found on the DVD releases.
I'm only about 5 episodes in, but so far I'm enjoying the Colby's a lot. It's much more down to earth and 'back to basics' than Dynasty was at this point, save for Fallon's amnesia subplot.
Do Dynasty enthusiasts point to Season 6 as its 'Jump the Shark' season? The show's original appeal was...
Good discussion. Enjoyed my first glimpse of Sable in the Dynasty 2-hour episode. She looked like a great choice for the 'Alexis role' in California.
I'll be watching the Colbys series premiere for the first time in just a few short hours!
Just started watching S6 for the first time on DVD (& overall since mid-90s syndication I think.)
I held off several years to wait for a Colbys release so I could watch both series intertwined as they originally aired. (Still surprised we got that release! Thanks Shout!)
I just finished the...
Dynasty is no more dated now than Desperate Housewives/Gossip Girl/Revenge will be in 30 years.
Charlie's Angels, Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, Night Stalker -- all bad reboot attempts. Dallas did it right; a respect for the original material & a continuation of the saga in the 2010s. What are...
I remember being disappointed when s3 came out as a split set, especially after S2 was a single set with many episodes. It didn't stop me from purchasing.
In this strange universe we live in, you'd think that if we got The Colbys we'd be able to get the Dynasty miniseries reunion eventually too.
Yes, PSM was certainly one of those puzzle pieces that made the show click. It really shows in the first season too before Joan Collins joined the show. Pamela Sue was the fun one to watch on screen.
If I attached the photo correctly, that's me squeezing the box so you can see how it's just a slip case. That said, as always, I'll take these releases any way they can get them out. :)
Now THAT is awesome :) I must say, I enjoy it more in 2015 than I would have in 1985 (seeing my show floating away into ridiculand).
But ya have to admit, that Linda Evans impersonator was spot on! ;)
Thanks Ethan; I enjoyed reading your thoughts.
I was a kid in the 80s, aware of the prime time soaps but didn't understand much of what was going on. I watched all of Dallas and Knots Landing in 90s syndication, but Dynasty didn't air in my area. I've been watching it as it's been released to...
I thought the Dallas continuation worked well, & I don't think Dynasty was as dependent on one single character carrying the franchise like Dallas was with JR-L. Hagman. Then again, I suppose Alexis could be ... but the show had a whole first season without her. (& frankly I still enjoyed Dallas...
I could be mistaken but I think CBS owns the rights to Spelling Entertainment (I seem to remember the rights to Dynasty reverting to CBS after FOX released the first season DVD set).
I imagine Shout! may have had an interest in a license, while CBS probably figured it wouldn't sell as well as...
Yes -- my plan is to track down the air dates for those seasons & watch them accordingly. In a stroke of good luck, I left off on Dynasty at the end of season 5, so I'm happy The Colbys release coincides with my falling behind in my classic TV-on-DVD viewing. :)
So where are you putting The Colbys on your shelf? In the 'C's? In the 'D's with Dynasty? I'm putting mine with the Dynasty sets (at the end of Dynasty line on the shelf).
But yet ...... I don't put Knots Landing next to my Dallas collection. lol I keep it in the K's on its own.
It just seems...
I read that Shout!'s recent Hart to Hart sets are formatted in that new-to-me style where you can view it in regular 16x9 on a modern TV & it properly displays 4x3 (without needing to switch your TV's aspect ratio to 4x3).
I ask because I watch a lot of my retro TV on an old-school 4x3...
