The new 4K restoration of North By Northwest will be showing at Toronto's Cineplex Scotiabank Theatre Sept 17-19 in the largest auditorium in the complex.
The Canadian premiere of The Searchers restoration now on sale at Cineplex's Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto in 4k digital in the largest auditorium in the complex September 17-19 . ( With the 4K restoration of North By Northwest also showing on the same dates )
TCM also ran it at their 2013 TCM Classic Film Festival (which I attended) back in 2013 with live actors reading the dialogue. The common link between TCM and The Film Forum - the inimitable Bruce Goldstein was behind both screenings.
Who will be the first to complain that they already have the 4K It Happened One Night and Mr Smith Goes to Washington from the Columbia Classics boxes ? :)
Sorry .... couldn't resist. But this is one hell of a box set (in 4k yet!) and may just end up being the classic film release of the year.
Nope - just saw a McDonald's ad in an episode of Cheers . Oddly, it was inserted in the correct break at the end of act one ( just to make me look foolish).
I'm in Canada, so no doubt our Pluto TV is different from the American version if only due to the various rights issues between the two countries and who owns what. Ours appears to be an offshoot of the Global TV broadcast network (Canadian, despite it's name) and many of the ads promote their...
I love the idea of Pluto TV, and have played with it a few times, but can't figure out why some idiot decided to ignore the built-in breaks for ads in the sitcoms in favor of commercial breaks in other places in the programs. I haven't looked at the drama programs but assume the problem is the same.
The way studios rolled out movies in 1965 has absolutely no resemblance to the release strategies that have evolved & changed over the last 40-50 years.
Quite true, but those of us with long-term memories remember the debacle when the laserdisc was canceled by Criterion after they had pressed the run and then Streisand decided she wanted to re-do the commentary. We don't know what transpired behind the scenes, but it was guessed that Sony...
Is it possible Streisand herself lobbied Sony to release it through Criterion ? We know that certain people in the film biz see it as a badge of honor to be in the Criterion Collection.
Sony has four titles as bonus features on the upcoming Columbia Classics 4K box set on Oct 1 :
EXCLUSIVE BONUS DISC INCLUDES:
Four rare 1920s feature films from the Columbia Pictures library:
The Belle of Broadway (1926) – presented in HD resolution
Ladies of Leisure (1926) – presented in 4K...
Some of these somehow made their way to Canada - picked up my copy in a brick-and-mortar store here in Toronto.
And I noticed the same oddities with the transfer of The Bat (1959) as Patrick.
Actually, many of the major circuits in North America now get the majority of their titles delivered via satellite or internet, with a DCP sent as back-up only if there is a delivery issue with their system.
No doubt these d********s have co-opted Bob, Jack and Greg's fine restoration work on this public domain title, much like what happened years ago to Bob's restoration of Africa Screams on laserdisc.
Out of respect for their work ( and those of us who funded it on kickstarter ) I'd like to see...
Reynolds and Jackman and Levy have been traveling the globe promoting the film for the last few weeks; my guess is they introduced these screenings in person in various cities which would certainly make it easy to fill a theatre for an extended preview of the film.
I wish these boxes were better constructed. The majority of the side wings on my first three volumes have all come loose and had to be re-glued to the box due to the weight of the three films in each wing.
No.... I told him privately when a friend from WB introduced me to him before the event. But he was very approachable and spoke and posed for pictures with anyone who came up to him during the evening.
Denis Villeneuve receives the Showman Of The Year award at Canada's ShowCanada convention in Halifax last Tuesday.
And yes, he is aware of forum member Joe Wong's pilgrimage from Calgary to Toronto to see Dune 2 in 70mm IMAX Film on opening day.
Not sure there's any significant savings given the exchange rate and shipping costs. All I had to do was walk two blocks to pick my copy up in person. (And it's still great to be to walk into a store on a Tuesday and see a rack filled with new releases. Not many of us can still do that.)
Considering a photo from this short is on the cover of the very first blu-ray in the picture accompanying the release it seems likely it's included.
FYI, the correct title is An Ache In Every Stake .
