Yeah, the brief shot of the octopus itself is from the movie - though run backwards in the video, as the original shot showed the octopus as it backpedaled.

There's an octopus scene in the video but it's not the scene from the movie.
Instead, the octopus only attacks Lauper.
Of course, the movie mentions the octopus at the end - in a pretty bad continuity error - but the music video doesn't include the actual scene.

Yeah, I think I read the novelization of "Alien", so that fits. I was 12 then and liked novelizations when I was a kid!
But man, it was a shock when I found out the cocoon scene never appeared as part of the film! :oops: :oops:
For years, I was convinced I'd seen the "cocoon" scene in "Alien".
I didn't, but I must've read about it and that influenced my memory.
When I found out circa 1992 or so that it'd never actually appeared in the film, I was shocked! :D
Can't argue there, though I'd heavily give 1984 the nod. Summer 1984 movies I still like a lot:
"Ghostbusters"
"Temple of Doom"
"Gremlins"
"Star Trek III" (not great "Trek" but enjoyable)

And some I liked then but don't hold up for me now ("Bachelor Party", "Purple Rain"...
"Hit" depends on expectations to some degree, and the hype for "Goonies" was through the roof.
