I think we've always recognized that the fire did not destroy the original 35mm source elements of these series so they are not "lost" in that sense. But we have always known from the beginning that many tape transfers used for cable and DVD releases that dated back to the 80s and 90s *were*...
I think the legal troubles prevented further releases while the tape transfers used for Season 1 were still available and then the fire took care of all of those.
I'd be more inclined to think another set of pre-existing tapes finally turned up after nine years. If there's a R1 release, I will get it. This and "Joey Bishop Show" hold the record for the longest stalled title on DVD.
