Good points, Robert Harris! I didn't know about the standard def TV parts. Still, I've heard the 4K transfer is well-done. Maybe worth a look, even if it's not a traditional 4K showcase.
Great review, Joe! I completely agree with your assessment of the film. Leonie Benesch's performance is indeed outstanding, and she brings a lot of depth to her character. The themes of free speech, privacy, and the rights of the accused are timely and thought-provoking. I also appreciate how...
I've been dealing with chronic back pain for years, and after trying various treatments, I found that CBD really helps. Since starting CBD, I feel more at ease and comfortable throughout the day. For those who use it, do you guys feel the same?
And where do you get the CBD from? I get mine from...
The the 1940s, Twentieth Century-Fox often eliminated the Fox fanfare at the opening and let the score begin over the traditional Fox searchlight logo. It was a sign of prestige to show that what was to follow was somehow special. Examples that come to mind are The Song of Bernadette, Leave...
Back in December I emailed [email protected] and Gabe asked that I send a screenshot of the Amazon purchase receipt along with my mailing address. He acknowledged all my emails in a prompt manner and kept me informed as to the status of the replacement. My replacement...
Yes, the Windsor had a deeply curved Cinerama screen and those comfortable rocking seats you would sink into. I wish STAR WARS had played there, but it was at the Galleria Cinema. EMPIRE played at the Alabama, another theatre that holds fond memories with me.
My box ordered from Amazon arrived late last night with Disc 4 being a duplicate of Disc 2's contents. The information on the disc reads:
303903
CR00445-4/CD4
DFM03
However, I cannot emphasize enough what an extraordinary collection this is, clearly a labor of love by Mike Matessino. I still...
Amazon says my seasons 13 and 14 will arrive tonight by 10pm. Of course it hasn't shipped yet. I'm just hoping they don't cancel my order.

A friend of mine sent me the following link that will be of interest to those fans of The Sound of Music who must have everything. The Super-Deluxe Edition appears to be the ultimate collectible for devotees of this film and its score.

I remember seeing it at Cinecon in the early 90s and, later on, at UCLA's Melnitz Theatre. Both times there was a audible collective gasp from the audience at Nancy Carroll's introductory closeup, showing her large, expressive brown eyes and that luscious red hair.
I scooped up as many of the 30s and 40s Warners Archive second and third tier titles that I could when they were releasing them by the truckload on MOD DVD and I'd still be collecting them today if they were offered. But I can't complain. I have enough of them in my collection to last me for...
Hi, Travis -- I hope my commentaries didn't damage the experience for you! Glad that you're enjoying the movies, especially in these beautiful new transfers.
I relayed your request to Randy Skretvedt who replies "Hello -- "The Laurel & Hardy Movie Scripts, Volume 2" is available on Kindle, here (I confess that I haven't seen this format of it, since I am an old-fashioned book kind of guy)...
You are underestimating DVD's ability to present a very pleasing picture to budget-conscious consumers. Will any given movie or series look better on blu-ray? If properly mastered, of course! But a well-mastered DVD will still look very nice when played on a high-quality player. I have an...
I too am still on disc 3 of Season 1 and watching two episodes per week, which is twice my normal pace. I just watched "The Safecrackers" featuring Joseph Kearns again as Mr. Dunkle. Watching these chronologically, I can see the slow evolution away from the radio show. The earlier episodes...
I know I would! I saw this at a Cinecon years ago and loved it. Those Universal musicals would make a great boxset, similar to the recent Maria Montez-Jon Hall set.
SIX OF A KIND is one of my favorite Paramount comedies, not just for Fields, but for Charlie Ruggles, Mary Boland, Alison Skipworth and Burns and Allen as well. All are at their best here, although a little bit of Gracie Allen can go a long way.
