I know this is not the best place fot this thread but if you want to test your sub and see what it will really do the new War of the Worlds DVD is the one to use.
I agree with the above poster. You are not supposed to use the BFD that way, it is used to make cuts to peaks in your FR not boost low areas (more on that below). The largest boost you should make is 3db but IMHO don't even do that. Now the reason why you have nulls is the interactions in your...
Mains are -3db at 35hz (RTi8) Center is -3db at 42hz (CSi5) I havent measured surrounds (Rti4), Polk has them rated at 50hz. With my other Polks I seemed to benefit from a little room gain and they faired better than speced by Polk. I'm probably pushing it with the surrounds using a 60hz...
Update and Information: I am using a H/K 335. I am using the dedicated sub out. The sub I am using is a JBL S120PII, it's -3db at 24hz in my room, BFD'ed and +/- 3db through 100hz with the exception of a 6db dip at 70hz. It's not that the bass above 80hz is very loud, it is not even really...
Is there any harm in using a predefined crossover on your AVR and setting the crossover on the sub to the same value to get a steeper crossover? What I have found is that when using a 80hz crossover the sub still gets way to much info. For example - I have set my crossover to 80hz and unplugged...
Me and John are thinking kinda alike on this one. My first suggestion would be to check H/K's ebay store for a refurb, next up would be the Pioneer and my last choice would be a digital Panny but at 250-300 dollars they will all provide great bang for your buck.
Room interactions could be causing this as well. Room treatments may be of help in this situation. Need more info on the room size, layout, speaker positions and materials in the room.
I am going second eddieZEN's recommendation on Outlaw equipment. Arcam has a good reputation for being very musical and is worthy of an audition as well. eddieZEN - Kudos - Im surprised your not telling him to get a Panny.
As Nhan_H said mid priced is a little vague. My advice would be to look at some refurbed H/K's at thier EBAY store and get the best one you can afford. (You still get the warranty)
As far as sound quality is related to the Pioneer in my previous post, I was referring to similar priced units from H/K and Marantz which I have had the chance to compare with the Pioneer. They simply had better sound quality and if you were to read up on some of the Pioneer threads on this...
The Pioneer is one of the best bang for your buck recievers available right now. Is it a great value? Yes. Does it have plenty of features? Yes. Is it a powerhouse? No. People need to keep things in perspective when talking about budget recievers. There is always going to be tradeoffs and...
I couldnt live without a sub. However, I live in my own house. If I still lived in a townhouse or rented an apartment I don't see a sub being of much use. I do however believe that you can't skip the center with dd and dts sources. It is possible to run without a center but I prefer having it. I...
The Pioneers have been way over hyped and don't have a great amp section. They have alot of bells and whistles but the amp section is not anything to brag about. I bought one brought it home, hooked it up, calibrated, and then took it back to the retailer.
No its not o.k. to have different speakers all around. Your L/C/R should at a minimum be from the same manufacture and preferably contain the same drivers.
EricSal hit it on the head... Dynamic range is the main issue and is why some parts are much louder than the others. A better center always helps to make dialogue clearer and give it more presence.
Well let me first say that amp ratings are pretty much all fluff. There are only a few manufactures who give good numbers and that pretty much goes for speaker ratings too. Second let me say that if you have an amp that is good for 100w a channel and you have speakers rated to 75w you will be...
UPW is (Behr) Ultra Pure White. I strectched b/o cloth over a piece of plywood which had been cut and sanded down beforehand. The screen is attached to a 4 inch felt border made from 4x1's and mounted to the wall. There are tons of recommended paint mixtures on the forums but I've always went...
