Nope, They said that its not a stocked part. Oh well. Mine will do. I did notice however, that the inside of the pre/out and main in terminals is actually plastic and that there is a small wire inside that contacts any RCA or jumper installed. So it doesn't really matter if you use fancy...
Thanks guys, problem solved. Called HK and they told me that the jumpers are essential. I made my own out of RCA plugs and 3" cuts of good 12 AWG copper wire. I soldered the wire onto the main terminal of the RCA plug and not onto the ground. Everything works and I'm happy. I've seen these type...
Hi, I've had the avr 310 for 3years now and am absolutely thrilled about it. My friend (neighbor) has the 520 and he's also very pleased. The sound is clean and solid, customer service has been great if I've had any questions, and the options and flexibility of these amps is unreal. Regarding...
Hi, I can only comment on H/K. I've had the avr 310 for 3years now and am absolutely thrilled about it. My friend (neighbor) has the 520 and he's also very pleased. The sound is clean and solid, customer service has been great if I've had any questions, and the options and flexibility of...
Hi, bought a hk avr 520 on ebay for a grat price used. Doesn't have ANY jumpers between preamp and main in. I don't get any sound from any of the speakers unless I plug a source into the main-in terminals, but then I get no volume control (but the speakers definitely work then). Do I have to...
Thanks for the reply, Thats exactly what i did. It was hard to compare because the presets don't look the same with each input so I had to do some calibrating (THX)with both connections. In the end its pretty hard to tell the difference but I do like the flexibility of the s-video/component...
Hi,I also posted on A/V sources forum. Not sure which area is better. I'm using my Panasonic 5-disk progressive scan player (F65) with my Infocus SP4800 projector. Which one does better deinterlacing? 1) I can hook up the component output of the player to the s-video input of the projector...
Ok That makes sense. Now, in principal will the midrange frequency increase or decrease with a decreased impedance, and is there a rule of thumb or formula? Regarding 4ohm or 8ohm crossovers: will my receiver see any difference in the total speaker resistance after I change one of the...
Hi, I have 3-way DIY speakers that I built a few years back using all Radioshack componetnts. I'm using their standard, convertible 3-way cross-overs, and the crossover points are 800, and 5000. The whole system is 8 ohm, including all thre drivers. My question is how would the crossover...
I have a HK avr 310. I'm buying a new DVD player. The DTS logo is obviously on the receiver, but what if I bought a DVD player without the DTS logo? Do they both have to have decoders in them, or is the receiver enough? Thanks
Thanks to all for the responses. I'm getting the idea now. A few questions. If I were to play an DVD-Audio disk through one of these players (hooked up through the 5.1 analog outputs), and selected the 6-channel input source on my HK receiver, would I get anything? How do DVD audio disks sound...
Hi,Ive also posted this question on the Audio/ Video Sources forum. Don't know which one's better. Lookin at buying a new DVD player, entry level. I've seen a few with a 6 channel (5.1)output on the rear panel (6 RCA's) in addition to the ususal digital Coax and Optical. These DVD players are...
Hi, Lookin at buying a new DVD player, entry level. I've seen a few with a 6 channel (5.1)output on the rear panel (6 RCA's) in addition to the ususal digital Coax and Optical. These DVD players are NOT DVD Audio players. My HK 310 receiver has a seperate 6 channel input. What would be the...
Him my tv only has the yrllow, composite video jack so thats waht I've been using for my DVD. The cable is one of those $20.00 deals, 1/4 " thick, nice gold plugs, insulated, etc. It was labeled as "didgital video cable". Its not Coax. My question is whether I should use a coax cable with RCA...
I've just finished painting my 4-way towers with spray on rocker-guard paint. I got it rom my local auto parts store. Its partially rubberised and leaves a nice textured, satin black finish that covers up most flaws in the surfaces. It dries fast and is paintable. Don't get the stuff with...
I have some old Mission 717's (1980 vintage). The 8" drivers are in great shape and have rubber surrounds but the audax tweeters are dead. I'd like to build some new cabinets for the 8" drivers but I don't have the specs. Mission won't give them to me. I have the model#. Does anyone have any...
Hi,
My vcr is mono. Is there any way to get the stereo channels from my TV coax cable into my H/K 5.1 receiver for tv sound? My tv does not have an audio out.

In my 4 way towers, the 10" sub is side firing outwards from the tv cabinet on both towers. It will be mounted no more than 6" from the floor. The drivers on the front baffle are all flush mounted and the baffle edges are all tapered and rounded. Do I need to flush mount the side woofer, or can...
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll take the advice and seal the upper enclosure. It gives me a flatter curve. If I port it I could tune the top part 10db lower, but I guess the bottom will take care of the low end base anyways. The NHT towers dont port the bottom, its listed as acoustic...
I'm building a large 4way tower simmilar to the NHT VT series. It will have 2 sepearate chambers with a side firing (closed)10" woofer on the bottom, and a 3way, vented chamber on the top (8", 6.5",1"). The mid will have its own enclosure in the upper chamber. The dimensions of the upper chamber...
How important is it to line the inside of the cabinet in addition to any fiberglass or poly insulation. I've read about asphalt roofing materials, felt, carpet underlay, and I was thinking of using some kind of spray-on rubberised stuff possibly. How important is any of this if the cabinet is...
Definately go with the solder. Superior conduction because every surface is conected. And as far as I can see, a well soldered connection is pretty, darned air-tight.

I'll be building a centre channel to sit on top of my TV. The drivers that I have are not shielded. I would like to simplify things and shield the enclosure itself. Are there any materials that I can use and where can I get them?
Thanks,
Raphael
I just bought the avr310. I've been hearing the same rumors re: quality. I love the sound and power even though its rated at 50w x 5. I'm still researching the rumors myself to decide if I will keep it. The warranty seems solid so I think that I will stick with it. I dont think you'll do better...
I just bought the HK avr310, 60watts x 2, 50watts x 5. I had the same worries as you. In a room simmilar to yours, I cranked up an old Billy Idol tune about 65% of the volume control. It was louder than I would usually listen to (very loud!), I don't know exactly what spl. I thought it sounded...
You guys are starting to worry me. I just picked up aN HK avr310, for $357.00 cdn at future shop. It was an open box clearance item, never been used. I thought I got an awesome deal compared to the MSRP (1299.00). Now I start hearing all of this poor- quality talk. I have 30 days to return it...
