Can you not turn down the TV native sound to inaudible independent of the receiver? Unless there is some noticeable image/sound sync issue, maybe this would solve the problem.

Sounds possible that the HDMI in-port on the TV is defective or the connection is less than solid. If the TV has more than one HDMI in-port, try another. Also, have you tried HDMI from the cable box direct to the TV?
