Do the halos surround bright sections in an otherwise dark scene? My guess is that you're seeing light being reflected from within the cabinet. This is a "problem" with most RPTVs. First, make sure that your set is well calibrated using Avia, Video Essentials, or the like. It's possible...
Here's another from the same manufacturer about their speaker cables: "****** ******** features patented ****** "Golden Section," multi-gauge stranding in a symmetrical, 12 conductor helical tri-axial design of quad-axial planetary arrays of golden ratio, constant "Q" conductors." This...
My 4700 also suffered DD dropouts (through both coaxial and optical) with my Outlaw 1050. I've since replaced it with a Panny RP82 and haven't had any dropouts since. (Also didn't have problems with an older Toshiba that the 4700 replaced) I would bet that it's your player. Do you/did you...
About 20 years ago, my Dad bought one of the first front projection TV's (He still has it actually, but it hasn't been used in probably 7 years). It's an Advent front projection console unit with a 6 foot screen. I remember hooking up my Hitachi stereo and speakers to it and watching The...
That's right, Mark. But be ready..."reference level" in the home is pretty darn loud to most people and will REALLY tax most subs (especially if you calibrate it to 10db+ over reference). Personally, I usually listen/watch at around 8-10db below reference even though my tolerance for loud is...
Like Brian, I've never bought speakers used. However, each that I've sold were absolutley like brand new and the buyers got excellent deals compared to paying retail price. So, from my experience, buying speakers used can be a great way to get more for your dollar.

I ordered a pair of Monitor Audio Gold Reference 10's shortly before Christmas to replace NHT 1.5's. Hopefully, my dealer will have them tomorrow.

The upgrade bug is nibbling and I've got $700-ish to spend. Here's what I'm currently working with and a couple of ideas I'm throwing around:
Outlaw 1050
Acurus A125x5
Outlaw ICBM (Won it, and don't even use it)
NHT Mahogany 1.5's and AC-1 in front
Energy Take 2's at the rear (long...
I've been using an Outlaw 1050 for a while now and had been wondering about adding external amplification. I've never had a complaint about its volume capability even with my low sensitivity NHT 1.5's/AC-1. I only wondered how/if the sound would "improve" like many have stated when they went...
Today, I wondered how close to reference volume (75db) my usual movie watching is. On my Outlaw 1050, I usually set my volume to 58 when viewing DD material (53 for DTS). This always seemed to have plenty of impact in my medium sized room and what I consider to be pretty "theater-like"...
