In the interest of accuracy, maybe I'll spin up Oppy and have my stopwatch ready. . . . . . For science.

Although only one was shown nude, the other was shown having a romantic affair with him while married to another, so to me, his philandering ways are evidenced by more actions than just "bewbs onscreen". But again, compared to his life's work and contributions to science, society, etc. his...

Just for context, it could have been more graphic: https://www.sfgate.com/sf-culture/article/oppenheimer-love-life-wife-girlfriends-18206519.php

Sure we can always say "everything's debatable" and "everyone's entitled to their view". But there's a difference between levying an accusation of whether a few brief topless shots amounting to 1-2 minutes of a 180 minute movie, whose subject was a known womanizer, is gratuitous versus if it...

Who is the arbiter of what's necessary, though? To oversimplify, historically the U.S. has been more restrictive in their views of nudity on camera, but gratuitous in its depiction of graphic violence, whereas other countries the trends are reversed (or both are restricted). To me, part of his...

So I agree with Nolan in that more often than not, the dialogue as recorded may be the best take available, and ADR is both time consuming and expensive and the results may end up not even being totally lip-sync'd which admittedly for me is something that I notice and if bad enough, takes me out...

A couple of other things to add, just for consideration. 1. Overall listening levels. I run my movies pretty quiet at home (average 68-70db, peaks in the high 70s). If Nolan's mastering for higher (theatrical) levels that may suffer when it's reduced for home viewing. I saw Oppy at the TCL...

My assertion wasn't that they're technically franchises, as since they are wholly original movies with no prequel or other connected movies, it doesn't fit the definition of a franchise. My point was, Hollywood's not going to learn a lesson of "support smaller, indie, original stories in lieu...

This reminds me of the Dark City naming saga (one of my favorite sci-fi movies, especially the Director's Cut which removes the studio-mandated opening voiceover that ruins the surprise of the movie). Originally to be called Dark City, the Travolta vehicle Mad City bombed earlier in the year...

It can legitimately be argued that Barbie, as a much loved and long lived toy, is a franchise. As is Nolan, based on his stellar decades long film output. As much as I’d welcome a move away from franchising, the success of these two films has a bit of “franchise” built in to them.

I received a polite acknowledgement that they are aware of the scratches and "will be addressing it as soon as possible". I'm going to guess it won't be very fast as I imagine they'd have to strike a new print for those affected sections and splice them in. I will say those scratches were less...

FYI I reported to IMAX via "Contact Us" the flaws I saw in the TCL Chinese showing. I mentioned both the black dot (stable, was there for a lot of the film) and the black scratches (was onscreen for much less, maybe 5-10 minutes, but when visible the scratches were stable, so it doesn't seem to...

Regarding Nolan saying in that TikTok video that's it's okay to watch films on a smartphone, that's not the first time he's said so, but in a previous interview with IndieWire in 2020, he expands on his reasoning. Here's the relevant passage:

I do wonder if we'll get shifting ARs for the home disc release. If we do, will it likely mirror the 1:90 - 2:20 shifting that I understand is happening at the IMAX Laser presentations? Not sure if modern 16x9 4K TVs would do justice to the 1.43 - 2.20 transitions as Nolan's intent, at least...

I don’t know where the issues lie but the projection system should not have been an issue for the TCL Chinese theater since they have a long history of showing his imax films in the best possible presentation and even built out their projection booth for this one...

Just returned from the IMAX 70MM showing at the TCL Chinese (I have tested negative for 4 days straight so I knew I wasn't contagious, but still went double masked, and sat at the far back corner to give myself tons of room away from people--more out of fear of reinfection since LA is having a...
