    Oppenheimer (2023)

Right Like any of the movie moguls of Old Hollywood were making movies for the sheer art of it. Their primary reason for making films was to make money, no differently than Hollywood today. All those Biblical Sand and Sandal epics of yore were nothing more than the fantasy films of the present.

    Oppenheimer (2023)

That's incorrect. DUNKIRK played in 2.39 to 1 ratio at my local theatre when it was released. I haven't seen Oppenheimer yet, but I expect it will also be playing in 2.39 to 1 ratio.
  3. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

This sounds like the Oppenheimer equivalent of the anemic flotilla scene in DUNKIRK.

    Oppenheimer (2023)

I saw DUNKIRK at the Edmonton IMAX and the sound didn't seem painfully loud to me. I was thinking of going to see this one there; however, from what I've been reading IMAX doesn't add anything to this film so a 9 hour trip, one.way, to see this doesn't seem worth it.
  5. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

That Barbenheimer nonsense sure sold these shows.

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Ha ha. Yes . I watched the clip you linked, so I see the connection now. Need the reference to get the joke. More for someone who grew up with Barney the Purple Dinasaur as part of the childhood. I've watched what others consider kids shows, even as an adult, but not that one. I do have some...
  7. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Thanks. That one just flew over my head as a joke.
  8. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

I don't get the tag line. It's senseless. Edit: Or was that someone's photoshopped joke? 2nd edit: Sorry, I guess that poster was a joke that flew over my head.

    Oppenheimer (2023)

I felt the same way when TITANIC was released and it turned out to be a huge hit. I'm not normally interested in biographical pics, but the trailers on this one have me interested enough that I may even take a trip to see this in IMAX. The way it should be seen.
  10. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

It sounds like nonsense to me. If.the distributor failed to line up IMAX screens for their film that is on the distributor. Cruise has been in the industry for decades. He know how it works. He knows that "furiously showing his movie to vendors and hoping they change out films that with signed...
  11. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Yes, but that is due to the sheer size of the screen, rather than the aspect ratio. The format that is really the most impossible to recreate in a home environment is the original cinemascope format like that used for "How The West Was Won"
  12. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Thanks. I'm thinking about doing a trip to Edmonton to see this in IMAX when the audience numbers drop enough that I don't have anyone sitting near me.
  13. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

Have they announced the release date for this yet?
  14. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

The trailer definitely piques my interest, even though the take on Oppenheimer annoys me. He and Teller were the ones who pushed for the continued development of the bomb. He let the Genie out of the bottle and then spent the rest of his life piously telling everyone how it should be put be...
  15. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

There was no mention of cost. The entire focus of his conversation was that he wanted to do it without CGI. His aversion to using CGI is becoming almost pathological. His 20 boat flotilla to represent the evacuation scene in Dunkirk was threadbare and cheap looking just to avoid the use of CGI.
  16. Edwin-S

    Oppenheimer (2023)

That he sees not using an available VFX tool as a virtue is just sad.
