HD Digitals comparisons to Warner Archive Blu-rays (2012-2024)

I believe "Days of Wine and Roses" is also the WA master. I remember it was SD forever, and then suddenly popped up as HD on iTunes back in 2019, I think

A Few Words About A few words about...™ West Side Story -- in Blu-ray

A newly remastered 4k UHD that corrects the overture colors as well as any other noted issues (such as sound) could offer the choice of with or without Intermission (just like the blu-ray). What do we (the fans) need to do to get this done?

A Few Words About A few words about...™ West Side Story -- in Blu-ray

Sorry to hear that. I know his relationship with Natalie Wood was frosty at best, but I thought their on-screen chemistry was terrific. I liked the recent remake, but Ansel Elgort's Tony made me appreciate Richard Beymer's that much more

A Few Words About A few words about...™ West Side Story -- in Blu-ray

I wonder if the surviving cast of the movie (Richard Beymer, Russ Tamblyn, Rita Moreno and George Chakiris) have any idea that the current home video versions (blu ray and 4k streaming) are far from ideal? Would they be able to prod Amazon MGM to issue a corrected 4k?

HD Digitals comparisons to Warner Archive Blu-rays (2012-2024)

Makes me wonder about Show Boat that recently switched to HD at FAH. Every other digital store still has it in SD. Since it's an MA title, I've done some quick comparisons and, while the HD version is nice and sharp, the colors (while nice) seem to be on-par with the SD version. I'm guessing...

What's left, unreleased on 4k, that you would pay $50 to own on day one?

The only 4k movie I would pay $50 for on day one would be the 1961 West Side Story, but it would need to have the correct colors during the overture and have the original six-track sound mix that was restored in 2010.

Vudu FandangoNOW Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu) Customer Service Issues

Same issue here. I believe it has something to do with the 4k file because it plays fine on my old 1080p plasma using the Apple TV 4K, but it won’t play using the Apple TV 4K box on my Sony 4k tv

    Soylent Green 4K?

The original "Westworld" is also part of the MGM sci-fi '70s films that need remastering. Interestingly, one of the last of that '70's sci-fi group, "Demon Seed," DID get a Warner Archive remaster.

Pre-Order Oklahoma! (1955) Platinum Edition (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I think Vudu hired some very cheaply paid web programmers just out of school. They have a $3 sale section which usually refers to just the rental price, but today there are several films to purchase at $3, including Oklahoma! (both the movie and Hugh Jackman versions) and South Pacific...

Apple TV+ iTunes 4K Upgrades Thread

My experience with iTunes and SD to 4k: During pandemic lockdown, I redeemed an old code I had from the Back to the Future Trilogy Blu-Ray set. It redeemed through iTunes in SD and upgraded to 4k in iTunes not long after the 4k digitals became available. I did not, however, receive any of the...

General Discussion Warner Owned Movies Not Available Through Movies Anywhere

Yes, I've seen a few. The first that come to mind are: Pete Kelly's Blues (WB) Walk on the Wild Side (Columbia) - for whatever reason, this is only available for purchase on Amazon, yet it is from Columbia/Sony, which is an MA studio

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Exorcist -- in 4k UHD

I'd be interested to hear what folks who have the 4k disc already (or have The Exorcist on iTunes, which is using the new master at 1080p) think of the subway scene in the early part of the film

Apple TV+ iTunes 4K Upgrades Thread

iTunes appears to have the new remaster of The Exorcist, albeit only in 1080p at the moment. I'm very disappointed in what I saw and heard. The opening Iraq sequence and the exorcism sequence appear to me to be heavily scrubbed of grain and the exorcism in particular seemed very soft to me. The...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Ditto. But who to complain to? Disney? Friedkin? Maybe an online petition? I think I'm doubly pissed because I bought it from iTunes on a whim in Feb when it was $4.99, but never sat down to watch it. From what I gather, was already edited by then. Obviously I wouldn't have bought it had I known.

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Its remotely possible he approved the edit so it could be aired on Disney+ (similar to what they did with Splash), but there is no way I see him approving this edit for general streaming or revival movie houses. I heard that it was shown at the Aero in Los Angeles recently and had the edit. That...

General Discussion The Criterion Channel Streaming Service (Official Thread)

Yes, however the ending was re-edited to be closer to the book. He did remove one line that included a swear word (the end of the scene where Chris is trying to get Regan's father on the phone for her birthday), but I doubt that was any sort of deliberate censoring.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Rebel without a Cause -- in 4k UHD

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - The Exorcist III -- in 4k UHD

I'm guessing both cuts in 4k, but definitely the theatrical in 4k. IMO, most of the added scenes in the "extended director's version" are fine, if he would just take out all those stupid extra subliminal flashes.
