What are you playing right now?

I finally finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. The story ending certainly leaves the door open for more sequels to come. Great game. I really liked Dragon Age, so I'm looking foreward to sitting down with DA2. I played the online demo. The gameplay seems much different than the first...

What are you playing right now?

How is the new Metroid? I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually, but was wondering how it compares to Prime 3 Corruption.

What are you playing right now?

Joey, Assassin's Creed was great. Assassin 2 is even better. I'm playing Dragon Quest Sentinels Of The Starry Skies on DS. It's just like the other DQ games, and it's nice and long. I might be out of the loop for awhile, though, because my wife is due to deliver our first baby in...

"laserdisc is dead! long live the laserdisc!"

I bought my LD player as my first real adventure in HT. Soon after, I bought an early AC-3 receiver and I was king of the hill! Of course it didn't take long for DVD to kick the format to the curb, so for awhile I felt like I spent more $$ on it than it was worth. I've since evolved from that to...

    My close call with death

Scott, As a rider, your story hits close to home. I've been in several near-misses and have seen some fellow riders go down, but I've been fortunate. Thanks for posting your story. I'll be sure to share it with others. Good to see you back! I wish you a full and fast recovery. -Hogie

    Metroid Trilogy

I'd say Prime 3 is definitely worth it. Get a comfy place to sit, but make sure you're upright with good freedom of movement, because it's an arm-swinging, aim and shoot game. It's challenging, addictive, and beautiful. Loved it. I'd like to know how silly I looked when I was playing.

    Onkyo or Pioneer Elite?

Juan, I strongly recommend that you thoroughly check out and listen to both models. It's certainly worth your time to check out Denon, also. There's a lot to consider with a receiver. Personally, I've owned Elite receivers, and I know a few people with Onkyo receivers and assisted with their...

    Bose Acoustimass Subwoofer?

Hey man, my Acoustimass set was a significant upgrade from my Kmart single speaker clock radio back in the day! :D I won't tell you how much I paid for it, though....

    Bose Acoustimass Subwoofer?

The "bass module" you have is not capable of handling the strong, low frequencies delivered through the LFE channel. Without the satellites that connect to it, it is pretty much worthless.

    Connecting two receivers problem

You can connect the L and R front pre-outs on the main receiver to a CD input on the secondary receiver. Any input on the secondary receiver except phono will work. Does your main receiver have a zone 2 option? That would be a better option. You can go from zone 2 pre out on the main receiver to...

    Any thoughts on Bose ???

There's a lot of people out there that love to trash Bose, you probably know that by now. I used Bose for years, so let me give you an opinion based on personal experience..... I used two sets of Acoustimass 5s and a Bose center speaker for a 5.1 channel set-up with a decent receiver (at the...

    Bookshelf speaker auditions

During my long speaker upgrade/auditioning adventure, I took an opportunity to audition a pair of Axiom QS8 (Thanks, Peter!). The setup had the M22's up front. They sounded wonderful. If you can find someone in your area that's willing to let you hear some Axiom speakers, it's well worth your...

    Something new from Yamaha

I was browsing at an AV store yesterday and saw this: Yamaha's new flagship RX-Z11 11.2 channel receiver. They didn't have it set up to its 11.2 capability, but I was intrigued. Anyone heard this setup before? Apparently, it's a traditional 7.1 set up with the addition of front and rear...

    Barking Dogs

Take that kind of action, and you may very well end up with far more miserable problems than just a barking dog.

I saw it. Deadwood was a fantastic series, and Ian was the primary reason my wife and I tuned in to check this series out.

I hope this show gains some traction. It's a great, original idea in a sea of programming that's been done to death, and it seems to get better with each episode. Sunday night is a challenging slot. I hope the move to Saturday picks up more viewers, even though it seems that moving a show to...

    Barking Dogs

I'm a dog enthusiast, but that's completely unacceptable. Letting a dog wander beyond its property will lead to mountains of other problems. I hope your neighbor gets a grip on the situation before something bad happens.

    Barking Dogs

I agree. Most dog owners I know would do a lot to deal with the problem to prevent any hostility towards them or their dogs. They might not realize how much this is bothering you. At least give them a chance.

    Nintendo DS

Is anyone playing Dragon Quest V? Mid-way through, your main character has to choose between 3 girls to marry, which may or may not alter the game. I chose the most unlikely of the three. It seems the plot aims toward one in particular, so I was hoping to compare notes with someone who chose a...

    Zone 2 connection advice

I was at a friend's house the other night, and he was showing me his zone 2 set up he just completed. I noticed he hooked it up completely wrong, he rigged an amplified output from his master receiver to a line level input on his zone 2 receiver, which is a low-budget, older unit he's using for...

Paradigm cinema 330 speakers - to use as surround speakers?

I don't see why that wouldn't work just fine. My friend uses 330s for his fronts and center, and they sound great. Do you already have the Cinema 330s? If not, I'd consider an ADP speaker from the Cinema or Monitor line up for your surround centers. At least give them a listen at your A/V store...

Please Help. Just spent $1300 and it sounds like a $400

"Upscaling" is done digitally with HDMI interface, so I'd try HDMI from DVD to receiver and from receiver to TV, for both sound and video. Don't get your hopes up too high about getting a true 1080p picture with upscaling, though. ChuckQ is right on about that salesman. I used Avia II...

    Paradigm, center speakers and HT

Your Onkyo paired with those 'Digms will surely make you happy! I'd say from experience that timbre-matching is a priority, and a CC-490 can certainly deliver that when paired with your Studio 60s. I think there would be a very noticeable difference with the 690 due to the addition of 2 bass/mid...

    Paradigm, center speakers and HT

I'm using Paradigm studio 100's along with ADP 590s and a Servo-15. Upgrading the center channel posed a similar challenge for me because of space. My AV store was nice enough to let me take home a CC-490 to try it out. It's a glove-like fit in my TV stand so that's a plus, but it is performing...

    Nintendo DS

Adam, All these games I mentioned I played through on DS, so I guess I haven't played the FF6 you're referring to, but I'll be all over it when it comes out on DS. 5, too. I seem to be keeping up well with these releases, so if my wife is reading this, I guess she knows why I fall behind on...

    Nintendo DS

Hey Adam, You were right. FF 3 and 4, not 4 and 5. Sorry about that. I think I might have liked FF3 better than 4, so if you haven't tried 3 yet, it's worth it. You ought to be able to get it used for less by now. I played through Ring Of Fates. It was good enough to keep my interest all the...
