Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

What cable (coming from outside the house) goes into the WAN port of the AT&T modem / router? Is it Ethernet or fiber or coax? If it’s Ethernet, you can remove the AT&T router and use your own router. You can get a better wifi router. Depending on your home size and layout, you might be best...

Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

Ideally, your internet provider has Ethernet coming into the home and you connect that to your own router (and also not pay to rent their router). I’ve been doing that for a decade and if it makes everything simpler in the end.

Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

As discussed elsewhere, I upgraded from AEBS and AE to a TP-Link Deco 5 kit. Really good upgrade. Apple stopped maintaining or improving their software years ago, and moving to actively updated WiFi system is nice. Definitely recommended for anyone still on Apples outdated kit from 10+ years ago.

Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

The Mac doesn’t broadcast directly to AppleTV’s — it’s not a peer to peer connection. If all devices have good WiFi throughout then you’re ok regardless of where they’re located relative to each other. This is also why a mesh or multipoint network can be helpful, if needed, to ensure all devices...

200" (hopefully) Home theater build (blank slate)

Random thought: the Christie projector might be very loud (fan noise). You might need to build a hush box for it or locate it in a different room (wall cut out with glass window light pass through).

200" (hopefully) Home theater build (blank slate)

With a $6k projector budget, I’d have advised an Epson LS12000, Sony XW5000ES, or a JVC NZ7. That gives you a 4K system with good to great native contrast and superb dynamic contrast, and good HDR tone mapping. Paired with a normal screen, you can have 120” to 160” image. And all with reasonable...

200" (hopefully) Home theater build (blank slate)

200” is a huge screen. Even with a something like a JVC NZ900 you will be on the dim side for the image. And you need around 20 feet of throw distance for the projector. So if your heart is set on a screen in that realm, you’ll probably need to spend some time playing with projector calculators...

Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

If the Plex server is a dedicated server, just move it to the internet hub room and connect via Ethernet. If it’s not dedicated, might be worth considering changing approach.

Blu Ray drive for Mac Pro

That’s not where things were located before? Current WiFi can be quite fast. Upgrade from your old Apple gear to a current mesh system might be wholly sufficient.

Why can’t you connect your Mac Pro to Ethernet like you used to?

    Solar power for the home

Typical warranty is around 20 years. My panels I bought in 2019 have that warranty. The warranty is from the panel manufacturer. I didn’t buy a battery backup system. I have neighbors who did. We lose power only a couple times a year and usually for a few hours. I didn’t see the cost of a backup...

    Super Mario Bros. Wonder

I’m stuck on Bullrush Express. But I’m seeing now, after having tried it like 25 times, it’s a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ difficulty level 😆 so I’ll take a break and go back to easier levels.

    Upgrading Catfisch Cinema 2024

I was really unsure about staying with the 120” or filling the wall with a 125”. I wanted to go bigger. But there were some risks of it being too big for viewing comfort — I originally planned the room to be optimal for 120” screen — and even for the basic mechanics of hanging it as the wall is...

    Brats (2024)

Watched Brats last night. It was fun and nostalgic. It works in two ways for me. First, as a celebrity piece, giving a glimpse inside the personal lives and emotions and career arcs of famous and rich-ish people that had cultural significance to me. Secondly, it’s about connecting with friends...

    Sony PS5 buyers and owners

Yep. Fallout and Zelda were fantastic. But I can’t do those super-demanding, second job, 100+ hr games these days. I’m looking forward to retirement one day to go back to them.

What are you playing right now?

I bought Super Mario Wonder. I’m tired of Slay the Spire. The Outer Wilds just isn’t my jam. Zelda is just…nope. I wanted something fun and light, that doens’t require quitting my day job, and I can play on airplanes and in bed. So I finally conceded and spent the $60 to buy Wonder last night...

    Sony PS5 buyers and owners

Looks like Fallout in Space; so looks great to me based on a couple minutes of trailers. Is it any fun for real or would I enjoy it given my current gaming interests? 🤷‍♂️ But if i were looking diving back into ”big” games with a new console, Starfield seems like it would be top of the list for me.

    Netflix Sweet Tooth

Probably next show to watch after I finish Dark Matter. And I don’t feel I need a series rewatch to prep like I need for Umbrella Academy. Looking forward to S3. Sweet Tooth is just surprisingly good. It’s a “kids” or “family” show but doesn’t veer into too-young cutesy like say Obi Wan. And...

    Apple TV+ Dark Matter (2024)

Watched the lates episode last night. Before starting the season, I’d assumed this season would encompass the entire book - as Silo season 1 captured the entire first book of that series. I kinda expected this to be a limited series, or that subsequent series would have to invent and go beyond...

    Upgrading Catfisch Cinema 2024

I've got prices for 120" screen (same as I have now) and 125" screen (maximum I could fit). And now I'm doing some final checks on my material choice (XY Screens 8K) and seeing how 125" feels in the room. It's tempting to go bigger after 8 years with the current size. But, I'm not sure. When I...
